GL used a Duncan SH6 distortion and the JB(old JBJ's) for all of dokkens stuff

Not exactly. He also used an EMG 85 in the bridge on some of the rhythm tracks on Back For The Attack. I know because I ran into George when I lived in Phoenix many years ago. I used to go to a guitar shop that was well known in the area and one that George, Michael Schenker and a few other pro musicians used to go to. Never got to meet Schenker but I met George and it turned out I was living about 10 minutes from him and Mick Brown at the time. Anyway when I saw George I turned into a total fanboy :applause: and during the conversation I mentioned how much I loved his tones in general and especially on the Back For the Attack album.

When I asked about his gear on the album, he said he used a few different guitars and amps. I though he was trying to be elusive so I tried used a different tactic and asked what he used on the song Kiss of Death. His words were, "on that song, the rhythm is an EMG 85 through a Marshall and the solo is a Duncan". Now I'm not sure if he used the EMG on other rhythms on that album, but per George at least on the first track it's an EMG 85 that we're hearing for most of the song (and not even an EMG 81 which is kinda perplexing given that was the big thing at the time).

NO it's NOT perplexing. the 85 has a warm bass like sound to it. unlike the 81 which has a dark bass like tone to it.

that EMG's are in use doesn't supprise me either. you can hear the sound changed from previous albums. it went more LoFi, I was thinking it was EMG myself that was the cause.
my assumptions have been confirmed by your post. thanks :)

NOW george knows he was actually trying to get strange sounds from a setup which wasn't able to do what he wanted.
now he's right to ask the manufacture to just do it all for him.

Aww man, should've asked him how exactly he setup his Heaven Sent solo. George was definitely on fire throughout that album versus the former Dokken tracks.

Cool stuff & welcome! :)

I like my SH-12 in my RG655 much better than the Tone Zone that it replaced , but I am still curious about the JB. I suppose it's the voice of the SH-12 that hits the spot for me .
