Was wondering if using my 2204 without power tubes and with no speaker connected would damage anything. Simple yes/no would help.
I’ve powered on the amp without power tubes before, and nothing went wrong. Not sure if having no speaker connected in addition would kill the OT or anything.

I plan on just running the preamp section into my recording interface to see how it sounds.

I just got the tracking info. Cant wait to see how she sounds.
My gut tells me I will change the speaker to a Creamback G12-65 and get rid of those Marshall labeled JJ tubes...yuck! Maybe installed Mullards EL34s and either the Mullard 12AX7 CV4004 or The Tube Store Preferred Series 7025s.
I have a 3 Henry Classic Tone Choke and might toss that in down the road.
There are a lot of choices between $800-$1100 and I'm wondering if there are particular years to avoid and what people think in general of the 490R/498T pickup configuration. I saw one with classic 57s but all others have the other pups. And does binding on the next make that much difference? The 2018-19s have binding. I've never played one...
I picked one up for half-price compared with new (still $550 thogh ). I really wanted to have that Recto tone that I can mix with my JCM900 in the studio - from what my ears are telling me, this does the Recto pretty well. It's not a full-fledged Dual Rec 100W of course but in the 25W modern mode, it comes pretty damn close!!! It has a great squeaky clean tone (my SL-X is a single channel), very good vintage tones (MKiiCish) and a great modern tone....
I recently purchased an Egnater tweaker 15 watt head with an Egnater 112x rebel cabinet. I’ve enjoyed the tones I’ve gotten out of it so much that I haven’t played my tsl in months (until yesterday). I’ve expanded my pedal board recently to really compliment the tones I can get from the tweaker. I haven’t gigged it yet but even with the 1x12 I only need to have the volume knob...
Little Bit of History
I have owned a Marshall 2525h for around 3 years now and it has remained an ornament for about 90% of the time. Through the 2x12 upright cab it sounds phenomenal, when recorded that mid hump is too dominating. I have always wondered if the 100-watt head would have been a better choice, but I was unsure if it is the sound...
Nothing like a metal type sound. This ain't your djent machine. More like a JTM with a clean boost pushing it, but different enough to earn a place next to the old Marshalls if that makes any sense. The solo tone...
