top 5 are- no1 marshall JTM60 combo stack-when cranked its unbelieveable and it starts at 5, on both channels-just keeps surprizing me everytime

no2- mesa express 5/50 combo stack-very American smooth

no3- bugera V55HD complete stack-brilliant tones and no humming-it just needs the a correct bias and these amps are superb,fenderish(thanks russ)

joint no 4 and 5-all marshall one watts there's a favourite for everyone-mine JTM 1H--this led me to the JTM60, and I very plzd to have found that one

I hear ya! I love my JCM602 and JCMC212 "Half-Stack." The JTM60 and JCM600 series, which are really the same, rock. What's not to like about them?

60 Watts, Clean and OD channels with independent EQ and reverb, both series and parallel FX loops, direct out, super easy access to the tubes, and they sound beautiful. Set the preamp volumes on 5 and 3, gain to 1, and crank the master volume = EL34 bliss!

Marshall gets my top spot, nothing like a Marshall.

I have really dug Orange and find them to be a different flavor of Brit/Marshall tone.

Fender's amps are that, Fender. Legendary cleans and "American" tone.

Peavey I grew to love after owning a number of their amps thru the years. The old stuff was always the most reliable, loudest amps I have owned. I never noticed a "Peavey tone" per se but I have always found them versitile, they get the job done.

Mesa... well I dig their quality! I can't say I have an attraction for their sound. I owned a dual rec for a little bit in my metal phase, I can say I was underwhelmed. It had lots of gain, character and tone adjustment but it always lacked the balls and oomph in the chest my JCM800 possessed. I have played some Mesas that made great pedal platforms, while the amp alone was "alright" my pedals sounded the best I ever heard thru it.

There are others that I quite like but the above are ones I have kept in my stable (mainly 60s and early 70s).
The Friedman, Matchless, Mesa Boogie, Trainwreck etc all have their place but I have no need for them at the moment.

Fender as long as it's before the end of the silverface era.
Mesa, any era but I favor the Mark II/III era most.
Fractal Audio Systems
Blackstar, their higher end tube offerings. (I'd grab an Artist 100 in a heartbeat, at the right price.)

That list lis limited to brands I've owned (and currently own), not any that I'd like to own. Sure, I'd jump at a chance to get a Bray or a Friedman if I could afford it right now.

#5 is tough- I'm thinking Orange or Bogner. I think I like a few more models of the Bogner Amps than I do Orange. But the Bogners I like are basically doing the Marshall thing. so.....Orange....maybe?
