Why do Marshall JCM 900 4102 have the best honk to my ears of the Marshall amps. Is it because of the diode clipping.

I ran the Marshall JCM 900 into a Koch load box and routed the signal out thro its speaker and cabinet simulaotrs into my DAW and got wonderful honk out of it. This was the first time I ever experienced that classic tone which I had been looking for for ages. I never use the speakers that came with the combo.

I own a River KR 100 Knucklehead, a fender Blues Deluxe and a recent production of an AC30. I am a happy camper now and don't ever want to sell the Marshall.

I think one of the main problems with this Marshal has been the speaker cabinet and speaker. Aging also helps. I have El34s in the power section.

There's a built in or "FIXED" eq at the beginning of the channel B circuit that accentuates that mid honk you're referring to.
Much like a Tubescreamer or the like, that has a mid boosting effect.

Not that you'd like it, but some of us clip that out of the signal path so that channel B is more like channel A but with lots more gain.
A nice mod would be to put that on a switch to have the choice of the two.
