Ghost - If you are a troll, you are a well written one, and you spend a great deal of time pouring your soul out on a music forum, which makes absolutely no sense to me. But, for arguments sake, I'm going to go with the belief that someone with your smarts has better things to do than troll some amp site. If you are for real, my heart goes out to you. For what its worth, here's my 2 cents... Perhaps 3.

In high school, by best friend was not a great looking guy. He was skinny, somewhat goofy at times, and when he tried to be cool, it came off as nerdy and lame. We grew up in Orange County CA, where high school was split between the 90210 type rich kids, and a smaller percentage of less well-to-do kids. We were the kids that didn't have money - and it sucks to admit it, for some reason that had a lot to do with who you hung out with and your social status at school. That being said, what I DID love about him, and what he really had going for him was his ability to make the best of what he had; he didn't care that others had money, he was just as happy with his VW bug pos. Here is what else he had - brains, determination, and time. All free, and no amount of money, nor looks could impact those factors. So, he figured out a plan to use what he had to better himself. While the other guys were out partying on Friday and Sat nights, he was working to save his money. He started off at Goldenwest College (a 2 year junior college) where he did well, then finished his last 2 years at UC Irvine. He studied finance, went on for his MBA. He is now VP of Portfolios (high-yield bonds) at Putnam Investments in Boston, and he makes stupid money. That nerdy-geek from high school does very well for himself. While he was going to that junior college, he decided to make use of the free gym they had, and cut his hair, and got into shape. Nothing super monstrous, but well defined and in great shape. Looks has no impact on physical fitness and muscle mass. If you have a busted grill, pop in to see the dentist. You probably have health insurance, and might as well get some use out of those damn payments to the insurance company, right?

My point to all of this is you still have those factors that looks, money, social status, etc. has nothing to do with. You need to sit down and make a decision - what are YOU going to do about this? You were dealt a shitty hand - but you have your health, brains, and time. Leverage those things that they cannot take away from you. The rest will come - I promise. You just have to focus your energy and time on those things you CAN control.

Girls: They will be there when the time is right. Right now, put them on hold. Make that conscious decision to not worry about them at this time. It might actually bring you some peace if you tell yourself that YOU are putting them on hold, where you're not always thinking about why they aren't around... Get your goals down. Get in a gym to build your stamina and confidence up (again, not talking about being a bodybuilder, just get in shape and tone up a bit). Use that brain of yours - get in school, or go back to school, or if you are in school, focus on what you want to do. You cannot wait for life to change you; YOU have to dig deep and find that determination and tenacity. It will come. If you have faith/religion/belief in a higher power (etc.), LEAN on it. Take advantage of what you DO have.

I came from a less than rich family, and I had to work my fukking ass off. I went to college in the morning, then worked at a reprographic company from 11am to 5pm, then at 5:30 I changed clothes and went to my job at Chili's where I dealt with asshole customers all night (and all weekend), slinging fajitas and crappy burgers.

Sorry this is such a long rant. I'm a HUGE fan of the underdog story, and there is nothing more rewarding to me than to see someone fight for what they want, and what they believe in. And, I believe a good struggle/fight is the best form of therapy.

Don't know what you mean by not adding up.

It seems to me that you are younger.

Can I ask a question? ...

Have you recently lost, or had a falling out with someone with whom you regarded their opinion more important than yours?

You can pm the answer if you don't want to talk about it here.

Good question Stralian.

(And I am resisting the urge to make it grammatically correct.)
Nah - I can't resist...
You meant to say:
Have you recently lost, or had a falling out with, someone whose opinion you regarded as more important than yours?

Here in NZ we have a high rate of suicide among young males. As far as I can make out we do not know why. But we know that a broken relationship is frequently a precursor to the fateful decision.

This is sad: for one thing a man should not be so fragile.
