Bad ass story.....worth the read
I am great friends with Geof who lives outside DC now. We worked together in Boston 30 something years ago and have remained close friends. I'm in Florida now but we meet up with each other and some friends and do a Vegas trip or a concert somewhere every year. He has an early 20's son who is into music and he asks me every birthday and Xmas about what he should get his son. I throw out my guitar/music ideas and he sends me pics of what he gets him. About a year ago I tell him about my dream guitar, a 3 PUP Les Paul Black Beauty. He gets it for his son. I tell him "I will own one someday before I die, but I cant justify the money for one guitar".
Time passes and Geof wants to come see my band, BAD LATITUDE, play in Florida. He and the guys get flights for April. 3 days before, Geof gets COVID. Trip cancelled. Rebooked for June.
We all hook up for a couple nights before the Saturday gig. They are all excited to be roadies for a day...hahaha. I set up my gear, we have some (and some more) cocktails and go outside for a group pic. I walk back in and look at my gear. There is my 2013 LP Traditional, my EVH Frankie and a Black Beauty, which wasn't there before. I ask "who the hell's is that?" Geof turns and says "it's yours". I was half in shock, half teared up, and half shaking (three halves).
I am now the proud owner of a brand new 57 LP Custom Black Beauty.
He had it shipped to Steve here in Florida in April for the trip that got cancelled. Been sitting in his house since then.
Love you my brother.
And thanks to Steve, Ty, Ken and Suzy for the great surprise. This one's gonna be tough to top.....
