as for the original question...........sigh........
jake was Ozzy's most technical player by far.
the dude held noting back and totaly ripped it to shreds.
brad just kicked the word in the nuts on the Speak album
and however very disappointing with NightRanger.
but jeff watson was super badass.

i like both equally for different reasons. gun to my head and gotta pick one.............jake.

Let’s vote for Ozzy’s best guitarist.
I think you left some names off there……

In my opinion, Zakk, Jake, Randy in that order.

Gillis was never on a studio album or original song so sorry…. He’s a great amazing player, but not an Ozzy guy “for real”

I like a lot of Zakks stuff with and without Ozzy, some of it does get cheesy but he doesn’t take himself seriously, so I’m ok with that. As for the “brother, father, saint” stuff I think that’s a local thing where he grew up, and I believe you gotta be dead to get the “saint” moniker.

Jake, I loved his playing, especially in Badlands. Shame we lost Ray, he was one of the best rock/bluesy singers and he worked well with Jake musically.

Randy, you can’t say anything bad about him, except his tone was kinda crappy, even the producers hated his pedalboard. But he was gone before he got to reach his full potential.

IMO, Bob Daisley & Randy Rhoads...

then Geezer & Tony...

& Zakk...
I will never put anyone in front of Randy but Jake was an amazing guitarist. I also like what Zack did when he was younger. For instance the solo on "Road to know Where"
Jake's work is amazing, the guy just shredded the frets off the guitar.
" Bark at the moon , Shot in the Dark , Ultimate Sin"

They are all great , not sure why but Mr CROWLEY just makes a huge impression on me but every song Randy recorded was gold in my eyes.

We go round and round about this and we all see things differently. No one is wrong just opinions.

Oh, I’m sorry. I thought everyone heard the outro solo in “Bark at the Moon”. Come on now.
Mr Crowley 2nd solo, outro solos to Revelation (Mother Earth) and Tonight, Over The Mountain...just as brilliant. Jake has Killer of Giants though (and BATM obviously).
Zakk, it's more the riffs than to solos imho (but he has some sick ones, I mean, Miracle Man, cmon).

And for the record I LOVED Gus in Firewind, much more so than with Ozzy. Killer player.

Imo Ozzy was best with Sabbath. If we're talking solo Ozzy, then Randy is the undisputed king. Jake might've been "flashier" or whatever but Randys songs were just better imo.

Diary of a Madman was so powerful and still to this day I feel that power. I don't get that from the other albums. Ultimate Sin was pretty good as was Blizzard of Ozzy. Barf at the Moon was pretty pop sounding imo, ZW No Rest for the Wicked was better.

Zakk only had one good album though, again, imo. That was the first one.

I was ecstatic when I heard Ozzy had a different guitarist on the scream album. Though it wasn't very good I think it was better than all ZW albums after NRFTW.

Yeah I don't like Zakks style... could you tell? Lol

So for solo Ozzy, I say Randy, Jake, Zakk.

...and yes I know who BG is, I was just being snarky :p. He doesn't count though because he was just a hired gun. :p

I've not read the whole thread, but the number and quality of guitar players who were floated about for auditions after RR died was pretty amazing

Schenker. Moore. Sykes. Lynch. Bernie, etc.

of all the hypotheticals, John Sykes would be the one I would have wanted to see.

It all worked out in the end. Zack did what Ozzy needed.

All those other players are great but I can only imagine them as they are now and not part of Ozzy.

The machine that is Ozzy was great in the "day" not only great guitar but Blizzard was the stars IMHO. Ozzy over the years from. From Sabbath through Ultimate Sin some of the best written songs ever (who ever actually wrote them) I know he didn't write Blizzard but every lyric is brilliant to me anyway.
