ive never heard a goat sing before
right.
There are techniques that the goats have and when I hear any singer have these qualities whilst they sing, would be top in my book, and it could be anyone. How they bring up a single note to pitch perfect correctness, then hold and suspend the note, then pitch bend and vibrato the very tail end of the note. (violin, guitar hand vibrato similarities.) (and if they do not own a Marshall, well, they suck,
even the violin dude)

I need to go back to my youth, when my musical taste was set:
- Ian Gillan, just listen to Made In Japan
- Freddie Mercury, great singer but also outstanding stage performer
- Robert Plant, I love everything he did with LZ but particularly the blues-based songs
Between these, I can't rank.

I had the same experience as the OP, that with many bands I was put off by the singer. Now I know better, regarding Rush for example.
