Which one do you prefer: 20 or 100 watts jubilee?

I use the 20 watts jubilee combo for live gigs and recently aquired the 100 watts head / half stack that I have at my jam space. They sound a bit more different than I was expecting. I guess it’s mostly due to the combo have a greenback and the head getting 4x V30!

    Anyone compared them both?

Since you have both, which do you prefer?

Try running to 2525C through the 4x12

Try running the 2555x through the 1x12 (not too loud though).

I have an original 2558 50 watter, open back 2x12 and a Mini jube head.
Through a V30 2x12 cab, the mini jube still seems a bit less gainy and less bassy, I presume from the smaller iron. But very similar tonally.

I have my 2525c running tru a 2x12 greenback mix H/M , and use this everyday in the kitchen diner , and when the mood takes me I have my 2555x head going tru a 2x12 of G12 80, 1981 vintage that I've had from new, and both setups sound great , but slightly different , the 80 watt speakers have a huge depth and a big sound

I find that they are close, the speaker makes the biggest difference. With the V30 the sound is dry and a bit less gainy, with the Greenback it is a bit creamier with a bit of breakup depending on the master volume.

Obviously the 100 watt has more headroom, but for a small combo, the 2525C has a lot of punch!

I think I prefer the 100 watts head and 4x12 setup, as always.

I’ll need to compare it to my 2203 and 1959 now :)

Had a 100 water for a while but it was too much for home use. I’ve now got a 2525c on top of a Marshall 112. One greenback and one V30 perfect mini stack.

Lot's of 50 watt users here. I think I prefer my 50 watt original to the mini as along I can run the output master up. When I can't the mini is a great alternative. With either amp, after playing it a couple minutes I don't miss the other one. Both amps I prefer through Vintage 30s. The 50 watt is more tolerant of other speakers.

As far as a 100 watt tube amp comparison, don't the usual advantages and disadvantages of 100 watt tube amps apply.

*100 watt amps have a stiffer and tighter feel.

*More watts support more low end even at low volume.

*100 watt amps are only a little bit louder than 50 watt amps and 50 watt amps are only a little louder than 25 watt amps, given the same speaker efficiency.

*Four output tubes produce a wider harmonic spectrum than two output tubes do.

*100 watts and the iron to support it give more clean head room.

*It's harder to get power tube overdrive out of 100 watt amps at less than possibly too loud for the situation. Some playing styles (classic rock/blues, vs metal styles) and roles (lead vs rhythm) benefit from power tube overdrive and some don't. Some players like a little or a lot and some don't.

*100 watt amps are big and heavy.

*100 watts need more speakers and/or higher wattage speakers.

*100 watt amps can push speakers harder. Some like speaker grit and some don't.

One of the factors with the 2525 is that the low power mode is not triode. It's power scaled. On the 2255x and the original series low power is triode.

Has anybody noticed that the 2525 uses a choke and the SV20 does not?

Yeah I see that it has a choke I have the SV combo also I can really feel the choke the smooth tightness on the red channel. I havent had a amp with with one in awhile.

I recently bought a 2525C but haven't spent much time with it. Warranty repair required for the push/pull knob between lead and clean channel. Worked with the footswitch but not with the knob. Picking it back up on Thursday.

I did get to do a quick comparison between my 100 Watt 2555 from 1990 and my new Mini-Jube. I run my 2555 through a 4 x 12 with Greenbacks, so it was a fair comparison.

Both sound terrific. Speaker isn't broken in yet and I am putting Mullard Reissues in it, so they will match my head when I get it back.

Surprisingly, I found the 100 Watt head sounds better at lower volumes in the room. Haven't recorded the 2525C yet, so that will be a lot of fun.

I need to spend more time before I can give do thorough comparison. Bottom line, both are great, sound similar tonally, but the 100 Watt head just sounds a little bit better at low and high volumes. Nevertheless, the 2525C is the best sounding 20 Watt combo amp I've played and it certainly has it's place in the collection. Love the ability to grab and go and not lose that great Marshall tone!!

I didn't like the mini when I compared it to the 100w. They both sound good but to me the 100 watter sounded better even at low volumes. The bottom end sounded a lot better. I would love it if they released a new 50 watt Jubilee. To me that is the sweet spot. A little bit smaller and lighter than a 100 watt and still as loud as you would ever need for a show.

Given the output master, tho, the Mini might sound better cranked in 5 watt mode than the big one turned down to same level? I havent tried it.
