SC20H or SV20H? I've heard online clips of both and like them both. I tend to like the clip I heard with the SV20H. Does the SC20H have more bass? I heard two killer clips for the SC with John 5 and another with Doug Aldrich also.

I haven’t heard either but just based on the circuit, the SV20 should have more because of the normal channel.

Depends on which bass frequencies you're referring to. The SV20 has more lower mids, I'd say around the 250 Hertz region. The SC20 has less in that range, but more low-end thump, say around 125 Hertz.

Thanks for sharing guys. For my next Marshall I'm thinking SV20H. The SC sounds awesome as well.

    John 5, Doug Aldrich? SC20.

I don’t think many guys from this genre use the normal channel on a Plexi. For hard rock 250Hz is not exactly your friend.

SV20 can do early VH, early Dokken, early Priest, Sabbath...

    Agree 100%

Jumpering a Plexi was more of an early ‘70s thing. That era of Priest yes. Sabbath doesn’t evoke Plexi in my brain, but yes the normal channel would be involved.

Asking about bass is a strange question. With a Plexi you get it from the normal channel. Guys like EVH, Lynch, DeMartini, Randy, Jake E. Lee and Angus don’t/didn’t use the normal channel.

If bass is important then it would be the SC20.

However, getting thump from a SV20 isn’t very difficult. You can easily mod the NFB to keep some of the 150Hz and lower out. Friedman used 4.7nF in parallel with 220k which was then put in series with 47k.

I prefer four holes over a cold clipper, FWIW. Just that I would only use one of the holes.

You can’t go wrong with either of them!

I think both amps will make a better player out of a person, they’re not very forgiving, but the feel and pick response is unarguably worth it

I saw the demos on the Marshall site. It's in the studio series part.

I like the sound of both for different reasons.
But Im not quite sure I totally understand the benefit of having a MV on the SC , vs the SV not having a master volume?

The SC is able to generate a good amount of distortion without needing to drive the PI and power amp into clipping/compression.

This isn’t as much the case with the SV where the PI and power amp provide a greater contribution. Though I feel that the SV should also have a master volume.
