Hi all.. Basically, I want to purchase an R7 , 1957 Gold Top reissue with a 59 spec neck and the weight under 8 lbs .Can be weight relieved or chambered.... .. god, these histories get expensive. No flame tops, don’t care about vintage specs, just a good lightweight Gold top with a neck in the .86” to .96” thickness range..... Any ideas? Thanks......
I wonder if it might be easier to pick up a r7 and just shave the neck. Wouldnt be hard to mask off and recoat just the neck. Then youd just have to find one in your weight range.
My guess is a Custom Shop build would be arpund the same amount of money regardless of dealer. I could be wrong but CS seem to have a fairly fixed price from what I have seen necause it is custom made. A few hundred here or there.
Prices are pretty firm all around , then factor in that you are talking about a made to measure which means more $ Maybe check out stores like Wildwood , The Music Zoo , and Dave's Guitars , also Chicago Music Exchange , and look for Goldtop Custom Shop Les Paul's with slimmer necks which they do carry as not everybody likes fatty necks . Believe me they are out there and start checking inventory lists from the stores i mentioned . Also depending on budget you can't go wrong with the newest offering from Gibson USA as the "60" models have the slimmer profile necks , so that could also be an option . Also depending on budget you could also scan Reverb.com for used offerings as i went thru like 60 pages yesterday in the Gibson section alone . There are Les Paul's out there that will make you happy and satisfy your needs and preferences . Best Wishes and happy hunting !
A Billy Gibbons perhaps, but a Custom Shop Les Paul Standard under 8 pounds.. Never seen one. Does not mean they cannot do it.
Gibson makes a 50's Tribute, Studio, Traditional and Classic Lite models in goldtop that are very affordable. No need for custom built guitars, look online at all the usual places I see them all the time new and used. Good luck and happy hunting!
My Goldie is a 2016 Standard, has weight relief and 60s slim taper neck. Can't say weight for sure, gotta be under 8 lbs. In fact, I should use that Sunday for rehearsal.
I had a tribute 50’s neck model.. It sounded horrible...bad wood... should have tried some others, but it was used and all I could afford at the time......tried 5 different sets of pickups...yuck.......
Wow thats terribly frustrating, Tributes are great looking guitars and sound good at least the ones I've tried. So what do you have now?
I have a Corsa Manaleshi LP. Amazing hand built guitar . No complaints, was just looking to add a Gibson at some point
Well kind of.. I have a Corsa Manaleshi LP that’s amazing. Under8 lbs. and a one off Swaim LP made of black Limba with a maple top... another amazing LP.. was just wondering about a gold top.... I really don’t need any more guitars........ and my Airline guitars by Eastwood get played a lot as well..] C5D5C800-ECB4-4AB1-9047-38B6868B1C8E by Rod posted Apr 1, 2020 at 4:00 PM Thank you all for your great suggestions!
Their guitars have gotten way better over time.....the newer the better when it comes to Eastwood... the Rivolta line is amazing, designed by Dennis Fano
