Why keep the factory JJ's in there any more? I had recently bought a new JVM410H to correct the mistake I made in selling my first one a couple years ago. I yanked the matched quad of =C= before I sold it, and had another in stock. Now that I'm sure this new head is stable, I popped in a matched quad and am wondering why I waited. Not a bad project for a day where it's -5F outside. IMG_8509.jpeg IMG_8517.jpeg

I bought a quad of Genelex Gold Lion KT-77s. They are supposed to be as good as the Winged Cs. Many reviews put them to be as good as the old tubes. We shall see. Those Cs to me sound better then any new tube I've used...and I've tried most.

I have a pair of Genelex Gold Lion KT-77's, they sound like crud.

=C= WARNING: This was my #1 tube for a long time but currently there are a bunch of B stock seconds out there from when they closed down production. I purchased a pair of NOS when the price was $80 per tube from a well known tube seller who warned of the seconds but said they had a stock of the good originals...yeah one of the two arrived shorted shocker.

..I purchased with a 30 day satisfaction guarantee. I bought 3 sets of Cs from a Ebay dealer. $50 per tube. Two quads and one duet. One quad failed. Supposedly the Tubestore sells all originals..not 'seconds'. But, they want $80 per tube.

My first JVM shipped with them, and I then bought a new set for spares. This was back in 2007 when the JVM410H was introduced. I yanked the factory set when I sold the amp (still a ton of life left), and kept the spare matched quad I had in stock for future use. I happen to love these in my JVM and have compared against JJ EL34's that my recent 410H came with from the factory, matched sets of JJ E34L's that I bought through Eurotubes, and numerous Russian new production tubes. I believe the true =C= live up to the hype. That said, there's NO WAY I'd pay the prices people are asking for these puppies now. I don't buy into the NOS insanity. My ears are not as golden as they once may have been, but I do hear more harmonic content with the SED vs. the factory JJ's. But I'm also happy with the amp with JJ's. To each his own.

Pricey or not, as they disappear there will be none around at all. As some days I have more money than brains, why not? It may be a ripoff but if they are such good tubes and ypu cannot get them anywhere else, I don't care.
Ordered a 4 pack from Tubestore.
Especially as i can use them in the Studio series so I can run the secrion easier and hopefully reap the benefits.

They sound fantastic. So musical... I can't wait to compare the Gold Lion KT-77s. All the reviews puts them on par or better. I bought a quad of the Tube Store Preferred series..EL-34s... really well built good looking tube that sounds great...better then most...that I have tried.. but even they aren't as sweet sounding as those Cs are.

.......You install one quad in your JVM and send the other quad to your good ol' cousin Trelwheen.

Used the SED C 34's from early 2000 til they ceased production. Have used the EL-34B Tungsols about 10 years, both sound great. Still have several quads of both but here to tell ya just bought a quad of Svetlana EL-34's and they have the best bottom/midrange/upper register of all of them and im not easy to win over.
Plenty of them and affordable. More for me.
All this SED =C= nutt swinging is poppycock.
That ship has sailed & hardly the only game in town.
