I've been drinking a lot of plain seltzer water lately (unflavored), see. And here at my desk I have a small 2 gal aquarium with 5 Tetra fish. The water has evaporated about 2", and I just keep wondering what would happen if I poured some of the seltzer in. Bottled seltzer may actually be more pure than tap water. I think about this a lot. (Roughly 30 minutes total, broken up throughout the day). I don't want to harm the fish. Their names are "1", "2", "3", "4" and "5" - easy to remember, but that's not important right now.
Are Tetra fish expensive? Not into torture (on fish), but what about science! They won't know it was you. Didn't you see Nemo? They have very short memories. Wait, is 'seltzer' water full of C02? That would kill them.
Well, I'd try it and if they die I'd cut the head off, put it on a jig, and ice fish. I don't think your ice is thick enough yet...
Ok. But what does it do? I figured it was just fizzy water, and whatever fizz just evaporates to the top. See, this is why I haven't done it. This is why I figured it was best to post it first.
I can't imagine that suddenly introducing a fair quantity of carbon dioxide into the water they process for oxygen would have positive results. They kick it pretty easily. Or... you could have a Fishy Fizz. Yum. ... besides, tetras are what you feed Angel fish or Discus to bring out the colors that live food provides in their diet. Go for it, and spring $5 for another 'round.

when I was a kid I put a couple pennies in my gold fish tank.. you know to go with all the sunken treasure deco? anyway, within several days all my goldfish were dead, belly up....floaters moral of the story: don't experiment with putting crap in your fish tank if you want your fish to keep living.
plop plop fizz fizz oh what a bunch of dead fish it is... Fish process oxygen from the water, not CO2. It would be like filling up your room with a bunch of CO2. Depending on the quantity you put in, it could make them sick or kill them.
What a bunch of buzzkills you guys are! Would have been nice to video the fish spazzing out... But then PETA would be all over your ass.
when I was kid I'd go down to the local boat harbor and catch nasty bottom fish (bullheads) we called 'em.. then I'd cut out one eye and throw 'em back in ... all because some old fisherman guy once told me if you did this they would swim in a circle
