Mine off the top of my head would be Jet City Woman. Especially check the 3:38 mark on the video below to clearly hear a little riff before the solo kicks in. I think this is Wilton playing here who has a Wizard preamp. Degarmo is using a Soldano preamp. If I'm right, I'm loving that Wizard.. but it is very Marshallish sounding to me.

There are so many but upon reading this Peter Frampton's licks at the end of Do You Feel Like We Do come to mind. Sounds like the amp is about to explode.

    How? VOLUME!!!!

There isn't just one for me as it changes depending on my mood/what I'm feeling at the time. Right now it's Adam Jones/Tool tone from their Fear Inoculum Album. I can get close using the Badonk model in my Helix (starting to play with the Revv Purple to see if that will get me closer). Here are a few others:
    • AC/DC - Burnin' Alive and Hells Bells
    • Van Halen - Hear About It later
    • Judas Priests - Night Comes Down
Oddly enough I've been getting into a lot of ambient tones lately too. Been downloading some Worship patches that are heavy on the delay's, swells, etc. Next thing you know I'll be buying a baritone guitar lol. Just that fact that I'm hanging out on worship sites shows how all over the place I am considering I'm an atheist lol.

Queensryche's guitars always had a fat, meaty tone. It's a great template for heavy prog rock, etc

I saw them on their Empire tour, and they played Operation Mindcrime in it's it's entirety. The mix was amazing, and they were loud as fukk. The guitars were like a sonic tidal wave, and after twenty-odd years my hair is still blown back. One of the best shows I ever attended.

Can't say I have just one either, but just off the top of my head I have this one in mind:

Ritchie Blackmore's tone on Made in Japan. It's the perfect mix of Bass, Mid, Treble, and Presence. His timbre is also incredible. I wasn't going to mention his vibrato work, but it's insane and one of the things that make it virtually impossible to copy him. Just listen to his solo on Highway Star (MIJ).

He pretty much just plugs a Strat straight in to a Marshall, but he has used a treble booster, and has run though a mono cassette player.

I saw the original band on June 27 1997 at Hospitality Point in San Diego. Really liked the twin guitars on Mindcrime my fave album. Jet City they got "commercial." Too bad the band had a falling out.

Eyes is my favorite tone, of course the entire album just soars. DeGarmo and Wilton when they were "sane" would always talk about their "aunch" tone. And how bassist Eddie got that cranking tone by using an overdriven iso-speaker in conjunction with his amp tone.
How they got their tone I'm not clear on.

Glad they "were" even if they're now "not."

Tate's vocals are something else and their lyrics were about the reasons we're locked down in '20. Talk about a band that had a sound and something to say that meant something.

I used to trust the media
To tell me the truth, tell us the truth
But now I've seen the payoffs
    Everywhere I look
Who do you trust when everyone's a crook?

I'm tired of all this bullshit
They keep selling me on T.V.
    About the communist plan

    The corporation claw
The rich control the government, the media the law
To make some kind of difference
    Then everyone must know

no doubt, @Trelwheen I cannot recall the Cali-mag that had the article then, but QR's OMC was on the Top Five List of top guitar players interviewed. (OMC's video is awesome IMHO.)
The collaboration was revered by many musicians and colleague's in the industry.
    (I feel the same way.)

I do not have the equipment to get DeGarmo-Wilton tones, but man those tones are a sonic tidal wave.

I really dont have one favorite tone. I can think of a few that blew me away when I first heard them.

This is probably closer to my tone than any of those though.

I have been all over the map - can we ever finish our tone quest? Although I do have my anchor tone....Metal Gods or any track from British Steel

Funny because the moment I heard this as a kid It was my favorite tone (not even knowing what tone was). It never changed. The beginning of this one:

Easily picked up the notes and chords of this, I've spent many years since trying to nail down the nuances of playing it like Billy My quick take
