When I'm actively working on new music I don't listen to any other music. For one thing, I don't have time. I spend all 6 hours a day I can play music out loud in my apartment working on my music. And I like to keep my consciousness free of any external influence, so the music I create is purely my own. Not having my need for music satisfied by other people's music forces me to create the music I crave to hear.

When I finish an album I take a break and start listening to other people's music again, live my life for a while, and reflect. When I find myself starting to listen to my old music, that means a new creative phase will be starting soon.
When I do listen to music it's: Tori Amos, TOOL, Smashing Pumpkins, Dead Can Dance, A Perfect Circle, AFI... mostly whatever their newest album is at the time.
