I don’t think I saw anyone recommending you check out a Silver Jubilee 2525C mini. I have one and find it to be an awesome bedroom amp, so I would suggest giving one of those a try.

Another interesting option for you would be a Marshall 4001 Studio 15 which is a vintage 15w tube amp that also has a headphone output. I’ve never tried one, but the reviews seem pretty good. Good luck on your quest!

Plus one on the amp; add a Marshall in a box pedal like the Tsakalis Room #40 and you've really got it covered.

Skimmed through most of the thread, but perhaps someone already suggested this..

I would say, based on your stated needs, a Marshall SL5 would be perfect. Combo amp, 5 watts, switchable down to 1 watt, 12 inch Vintage 30, single EL34 power tube, nice clean channel for those who like that sort of thing, even has reverb on board. Mine is a killer little amp, gets decently loud, but not ear killing loud, and 1-watt mode is very living room friendly. They can be found for well under $1000.

    Problem solved!

Edit: when I clicked Post Reply, I see someone DID mention the SL5 already! Nice!

    Original query?

Fucking play. Doesn't matter the amp. It sure as hell won't play you. Grow some by playing. Then hone in on gear. Gear rarely makes your dumb ass sound better.

Play. Anything after that will fit.

Good call. Although the OP said he was looking for the JCM 800 sound, I agree that the Silver Jubilee 2525C is an outstanding combo amp. It is the one 20W Marshall I own and I think it's fantastic. Being a Greenback fan, that was a big selling point for me, since it comes with a G12M. It is also extremely versatile with a responsive EQ and great FX loop.
