I dunno, I can be a pretty hot-shit lead hand-clapper sometimes, too.
Gots the CHOPS man! lol
Dismember was my first introduction to death metal (early 90's), the Nocturnus was ground breaking by introducing keyboards and synthesizer to death metal (The Key)... A few years of black metal (Emperor, Dissection and Enslaved)....
I do listen to Behemoth and Amon Amarth on occasion... Amon Amarth is from a subgenre "Viking metal"...
If you or someone else has a good grasp on the various categories (thrash/death/black/viking/etc), I think it'd make for a really interesting thread. I'd agree w/the comment earlier about putting Slayer in the thrash metal category, and always considered bands like Slayer/Megadeth/Metallica/Anthrax to be thrash metal. The rest of it is pretty hard to decipher for me though … I mean, I can tell the differences between some of it (i.e. cannibal corpse & gorgoroth clearly have a different sound), but the lines really blur at times. Would be cool to see some kinda breakdown with examples if anyone cares to tackle a thread like that.
Tackling a thread like that is a sizable conquest indeed.
Dude, go for it!
I used to sleep in the room next to where these guys rehearse:
Alright i'll chime in here. People put music into the death category based mostly on the sound of the music, but if you take into consideration the lyrical content of what could be considered death metal many bands could have already been considered in this category.
For example Blue Oyster Cult is one band that crossed that threshold way before any of these other ones did. Listen to the words, the suggestions, the inferences and this stuff is WAY darker than any cookie monster clone growling about licking Satan's ass to start the Armageddon. Even though the music doesn't sound like death metal it is by far heavier than the growly shit.
One of my favorite, death metal songs.
I'm going to concur that Pantera is excellent.
Even if you don't like the tune, watch the blond! She's jigglin man!
Oh boy! Pantera was not death metal guys. If you want to see the original 1985 inception of death metal, see my avatar. Possessed, Seven Churches album. The first and still one of the best Tampa death metal albums ever. The standard by which all should be judged.
Possessed, got it.
Oh yeah? It gets even better:
I want a UKE!
Something tells me you're more interested in the first 10 seconds of the vid than playing a Uke.
Well, of course.
Saw Napalm Death a couple months ago. Could smell napalm in the air all night long.
This was the song that introduced me to Nocturnus... Those creepy sci-fi keyboards that stuck to me... No one in the death metal community in the early days ever used keyboards... In fact, synth and keys were synonymous to Bon Jovi stuff and most bands in those days avoided them...
Dismember... and their infamous Boss HM-1 pedal cranked....
My favorite Pirate Metal...
I have no idea why I like this song.... Right now, the best Black Metal band I have heard...
