For me, an amp listed in mint condition should be perfect - absolutely no flaws cosmetically or electronically.

This Reverb seller lists his 1983 2203 as “absolutely MINT.” Yet, the seller states the amp has pen marks on the front faceplate and the light in the rocker switch is out. Oh, and it’s clear the handle is warped (common for early JCMs. My 1981 2203 is the same way).

What do you consider “mint condition?

(The seller gets a gold star for some of the cheesiest and most ridiculous sales pitch hyperbole I’ve ever read. )

Me, too. It’s definitely a term that’s often misused, especially in guitar and amp listings on eBay and Reverb.

Mint would be the opposite of "beat to shit".
    Brand new un-used condition.
    NOS.

    Replaced fuse holder too!
So a 'nice clean amp in working condition (if the lamp were working you could say well maintained too)
if the GEC 6550 outputs are good then they would be a selling point too

Definitely looks like a decent example, even if overpriced.

800 prices have certainly skyrocketed in the last couple years, but $3,800 is plain silly.

Excellent condition, but not mint. $3800? No way.

I like how the Price Guide Estimated Value is right next to it and says $1,400 - $1,955.

Never list an item as anything other than "good" condition or you can get burned, post lots of pictures and let the buyer decide what the real condition is.

Like someone posted in another recent thread.
Outrageous price + local only / no shipping + call for details = seller wants private offer so no Reverb fees.
Just using the platform for a listing.

My JVM I got an eBay was advertised as mint, it basically looks new.

Once went to view a Jazz Bass that was advertised as mint, but it had a ding in it. However, the price was good so I took it. The same bass is now worth more than I paid.

Generally speaking though, if gear is advertised as mint and isn't, that's false advertising.

Mint means absolutely perfect in every way. Guitars on display in stores are rarely mint, swirl in the finish or pick guard scratches etc and it is not mint.

Most guitars off the production line are probably not really mint either if you look hard enough.

I think people mean excellent condition when they say mint.

But is so hard to spel xcellint!

Either mint or excellent means new in the box never used to me. Otherwise they're going to have boogers, fingernail under funk or drool on them somewhere. The other 'sales' word that always amuses me is RARE!
