Hi i,m wondering if the tolex on a vintage cab is one piece or 4 pieces cut where the small gold piping is on top and bottom .

Thanks

I don't know either, but is the basketweave on that cabinet in the wrong orientation?

I don't know about vintage correct cabs, but I used 4 pieces of tolex for my cab build with pin stripes.

Here's a video on how to (if you don't already know):

Obviously you need to dress with a tie to make vintage correct cabs
This might answer your question.

Yeah the side pieces go on first, and the center pieces overlap.

This might answer your question.

That is a cool photo. Where did you find that? Got any more? If only it was a video. I wonder what that guy is actually doing at front right? Doesn't look like he is brushing on glue.

Had this on the computer already, but i just found it through googling.

Would be really cool if an old film of the old factory days would be discovered one day.

Did you see the one from Gibson???

Looks like a replacement grill to me, unlikely original. The script logo does look original to me though. Be very careful with that, they break very easily and are worth a lot of money. It might be glued on though on a cab like that, with the pins all broken off the back. If the pins are still on it, definitely take a lot of care removing it.

I have seen Marshall fit the grill left to right like that but only on PA cabs, not 4x12's.

I think so too.
Only the wood on this one is original 😀
Ok the speakers are pre rola but a mix of 2 g12 25 from 68 and 2 g12 h30 also from late 60s.
And it has Jim marshalls signature inside.
it will be lots of work restoring this.
They also filled up the grooves for the gold string piping on top and bottom.
I have to think on how to solve that problem.
Theres also a bigger square hole in the back panel wich has to be filled with new wood..
Loads of work ,i,m still not sure if i,ll restore it.
Pass it on or take the speakers out and sell the empty cab .
