Hi, there! \o/ Just recorded this comparison today. Used my Friedman Dirty Shirley Mini... Interesting... considering all my speakers, the Greenback is the one I like most in my Vox. And in my Marshall style is the one I like least... Anyway... Hope it helps!
Nicely produced video. I'll check your Spotify. Interesting, I have 5 speakers at this very moment. (That can change any day. lol) One is in my Fender combo, two are in my 2x12. Two are in their boxes. The ones in their boxes are the exact two speakers in your video. Not trying to be a d**k. I personally was rolling speakers in my 2x12 trying to find the right combination FOR ME. The 2x12 is A/B'ed with an SV20H, and a two-channel tube amp that is being replaced with a Friedman Dirty Shirley Mini in about 14 days. Can't wait. I ended up with a V30 and a G12H-75 Creamback in my 2x12. Not a huge fan of Greenbacks. (But I've never owned a VOX.) I like Creambacks much more, I just needed a heavy to compliment the V30 better than the medium. Keep 'em coming.
In general they sound pretty darned similar, but in the overdriven portion the Cream sounds just the tiniest bit more middle mid focused. Both speakers sound pretty smooth. I did notice in the second prtion that there was one particular harmonic nuance that the green did that the cream seemed to ignore! I'm listening on a nice pair of Advent speakers I use for mixdown, powered by a Marantz 240 amp that is controlled by a VERY transparent SAE pre-amp! Nice Presentation! Gene
@TXOldRedRocker Hey, man. How are you? Interesting how it's all about taste, right? I have the 4 speakers now (V30, Greenback, Creamback65 and Creamback75). I used to love the V30 but today my better option for 1x12 is the Creamback65. For 2x12 I mix both Creambacks. But that's for Marshall style amps. I'm still looking for a good deal for the SV20 around here. Hard to find in Brazil. @Gene Ballzz Thanks for the comment, Gene. The Greens definitely have a more open harmonic tone and that's good for me. But I love the tightness and mids of Creambacks. Some time ago I used to mix both in my 2x12. Good sound. Yes! Thanks, man! \o/
I'm good. I hope you are safe and doing well in Brazil. Both of the Creambacks mentioned are my second favorite 2x12 combo. That's a good combo. My view may not be popular, but I prefer an Eminence speaker in a 1x12. I used to have a 1x12 and rolled speakers in and out of it. Never found with a Celestion the fullness of a single Eminence speaker.
No sound on my IPad?.....Ah sorted it. Good comparison. Similar, but more depth with the Creamback when clean and more mid focused with overdrive.
Hey man I didn't realise you were on this forum. I love your videos. I think you do some of the best sounding speaker comparisons around. What mic position do you use when recording speakers?
Real nice........I definitely prefer the greenback......in this test anyway... Have you ever tried the Fanes....the F70 and F90.......curious to know how they stack up against the Celestions?
Thank you all for the comments, guys! Interesting. I have never tried Eminence speakers. I'll try to find some to try around here. I don't know why, but Celestion always had more status over here. Any specific model? Hey, Astra! Thanks for the kind words. Good to know they're useful \o/ I use 2 mics. The SM57 is in the "cap edge" position. And the P170 in the "cone" position. I found this image on the web to show: Hey, man... Never tried the Graybacks... But the Creamback/Greenback is just the one I did in this video, right? It's a Creamback65. I have also recorded a Creamback75/Greenback. Wow... Never heard about Fane. I'll look into it. Funny how many brands there are out there....!!
Very nice and well done comparison. I'm glad I own 4 creamback 65's and 8 Greenbacks. I like them both. With your clips I liked the CB65 mostly the best but some clips the greenies were the winner. Both of these are definitely my favorite speakers.
No, you did modern demo using a CB65. A Creamback and Grayback are from the same era. Not sure on what version GB you are comparing. That is what I asked. Good work on your speaker comparison, though.
Hey, man! I guess in 4x12 the Greens sounds really good. Never played it myself, but I believe. All your cabs are 4x12? Interesting... To be honest, I don't really know how to check the version... You mean, by the year?
