Hi all. I'm looking at getting a 2x12 Recto cab (horizontal) to go with my Mesa Rectifier Solo 50 that I bought used last year. Since new 2x12's cost $1,029 + tax here in the Great White North, I am thinking of opting for a used version of same cab, which are selling for $500-$600 at the same store (Long and McQuade).

Are you guys in favor of buying new or used when it comes to cabs?

Since I can't tell how old Mesa gear is from serial numbers, is there a real risk in having speakers blow in the near future?

    * Also, is there any way to confirm that the existing speakers are actually V30's (haven't been swapped out for something else) without opening up the cab to look inside?

If there are any other concerns buying used, I'd like to know (used cab virgin).

    Thanks!
