Always have been just okay in my opinion. Even back in the day I never understood why some people were so into them. I suppose I'm in the minority in that I thought that general time period was the beginning of the end for rock music. Around 1980 is when rock radio really started to stagnate- imo. Bubble Gum for the dumbing down of America's youth.
Ha...funny!!! He “was” one of the best during his time until he wore those gay assless pants on stage. Thats just not right and I cant believe the other members put up with that...thats just wrong!!
I have to agree somewhat. I thought they were good, had some great songs, Eddie was amazing DLW could sing but I always thought DLR was full of himself way tooo much and that he was strange! Now fast forward and he is eccentric as all hell and cant sing for shit and embarrasses himself on stage...nut job!!!!
What's wrong w/assless pants? I wear them to the supermarket all the time … love the cool breeze from the refrigerated section.
Listening to these old VH recordings really helps drive the point home just how bad of a guitarist I was in my early 20's, and still am.
I enjoyed the interview, except for his somewhat watered-down opinion on Randy Rhoads. Ed didn't just know Randy. From what I've been told, they were intense of rivals back in their club playing days. Listening to the QR CBS/Sony recordings, I wasn't that impressed by Randy's playing. It was good, but not inspiring. The transformation in Randy's playing from QR to Blizzard was amazing! I suspect, working with seasoned pros like Bob Daisley, and Lee Kerslake really helped Randy compartmentalize and polish is style/technique. As a musician, Randy was on the next level. Ed's single string hyper picking / fretboard tapping was no match for Randy's fretboard mayhem. I had been playing for 1 year, and as much as I loved the first Van Halen album, Ed's playing wasn't an influence on me. Randy, on the other hand... Huge influence! As much as Michael Schenker, and Ritchie Blackmore. I don't recall Randy Rhoads ever saying "EVH taught me everything I know." If he did, the student most certainly slays the master. Randy copped some of the tapping stuff, but used the edge of his pick; which resulted in a much more intense attack. Carlos Cavazo copied Randy's technique for the MH recordings.
lots of folks thought that was dave or ed but NOPE............. bring Mike back and lets get this shit going already.
