Van Halen 1 sound(first album) Favorite pickups

    I think to get his general sound, in a bedroom, small club situation the reverb and delay are critical.
    Its gonna take some experienced ears , with knowledge of the guitar chain, and equipment needed.
    Do you need a Plexi?..no..would it help ? yes but then theirs the attenuation/variac , which gets into more equip. and knowledge.
    I think that's where the different gain mods on the Plexi really helps.

    The first record does not sound like a low output pickup and i think Pete thorn confirmed that eddie did not use a PAF type for VH I in his surh video when he plays both high and low output pickups and FWIW pete is friends with EVH and has played his gear and been at 5150. I think pete would know a bit more about eddie than us.

    If you need less low end from the Custom just lower the bass side a bit from the strings.
