Hi everyone,

I own a Valvestate 80V (model 8080) combo which I haven't used for many years, as it developed a no sound problem on the dirty channel.

Today, I examined it with a technician friend and we found out that the choke autotransformer (marked as ATX1 on the board and schematic) is open. This would be part T5899 as referenced in the schematic, T-5899 as referenced on the choke itself. Would you know where I can find a replacement part?

Thank you!

well, the only other one I see is in Sweden, vs Germany...

probably costs about the same...
Yes, that's the one, I found it too and was about to post about it. Shipping costs are VERY different, actually (different carriers). Many thanks for the welcoming message and for all your help!

It isn't a real transformer. It is Open... it works more like an ignition coil. One winding around the core with a low voltage tap. And the same winding going on up to high voltage.

Hi Johan,

You are correct in your description, that arrangement is called an autotransformer as there is a single coil for both input and output voltages, meaning also that there is no isolation between primary and secondary circuits unlike what happens on a normal transformer. In the amp, it is used to raise the voltage going to the plates (anodes) of the ECC83, and being a choke it should also be filtering out unwanted high frequencies.
