Hello guys I know everyone hates an Mg, but I love it's size, I'm old fits in the Jeep better. I play through a dsl20Hr or a Blackstar club50. My Marshall has 4 ohm Jensens. I've used the 412 for years, but recently acquired a 212 verticle Harley Benton with vin30s. It's apparent that both Amps sound tons better with the vi30s.....is it worth upgraded my beat up mg.....I know the common answer will be buy a better used cab, but I live in the middle of nowhere northern New York and that is not an option iether.

I put better speakers in a couple of my MG 412 cabs, so that’s what I do.
Your ears will tell you what you like.
    Cheers

I’d seal off 2 ports and make it a 2x12. Install a couple WGS veteran 30’s. Best bang for your buck. Those small cabs are better sized for 2 speakers imo.

Sure, upgrade it but 4 V30's will probably set you back close to $500. Is finding a used JCM800 4X12 cab an option? I've played my 2X12 V30 cab next to my 4X12 G12T-75 cab and the G12T-75's were actually a little smoother sounding. FWIW you can find those cabs all day in the $500 to $600 range.... just a thought.

I'm def looking for a good used cab, but currently there's not much in the area.

I am in the process of putting the Vin 30s on my 412(2 of them). And putting the mod 12/70sbin my 212 plywood cab

Where is the "Burn the MG" option?

    JK - :fever:

Do what you would be happy with, in any case.

I put the 2 vintage 30s in the top as it's a slant cab, should I try x pattern. I'm quite happy with the 2 celestions in there.

I put Celestions in my MG110s and it made a HUGE difference. The stock ones were hot garbage.

try one on top and one across on bottom and seal off the other holes with some plywood or whatever. Makes a great 2x12!

Or leave one hole open, try that and then seal it to compare. Regardless, any Texan who loves Possessed should be listened to.

Yeah....The blackstar is going back.....it's great as long as I don't compare it to my dsl! Blackstar in nice a bedroom volume.....but given some time crank them both..... At high volume DSL thumps and screams...Blackstar gets noisy. DSL has spoiled me.....I'd like a bigger more powerful amp for bigger shows.....it's gonna have to be a bigger dsl

Hi Roag, the way you wrote your description is slingtly confusing to me. Are you saying you want to use new speakers in your cabinet. Is your MG a combo or a head cabinet? Your avatar shows a head/cabinet. Anyway I had a MG100HDFX as a single 12 cabinet with an eminence Swamp Thang, A single 4X12 MG cabinet then a full MG stack. Playing at home solo was ok, but I didn’t care for its sound and response to my playing that much no matter what I did. The main issue for me was it lacked low end and warmth and punch at any volume no matter what speakers I used. In a band setting it seemed fine since a lot of other instruments combined for a total sound. For me no matter what I did, I couldn’t get better sound than OK. I would probably leave it alone and not put a lot of money into it since I found even with $ 500.00 worth of speakers it didn’t really improve the sound that much. You might be better off finding a good deal on another amp.

Speakers can make or break an amp. Do it.

I would use V series for that amp. I have great cabs and a few different speakers(GB'S, V30's, GB128's, Jenson Black, V series, 70/80)

You can buy a brand new 2-12” cab from Eminence for $200, or they will load it with any of their speakers. I have one and they are very nice cabs but I like a V30 & 75w CB best.
