UK vs USA Marshall prices , WTF!!!

I bought a Gibson LP Standard 50's from Music Store in Germany two months ago, shipped to Sweden. Paid SEK 26 028, including Swedish VAT (25%) and free shipping. Corresponds to about EUR 2 285 or USD 2 370. I can see the same guitar type for USD 2 700 to 2 800 in US web shops. I don't know if that is what you would paid to have it shipped home, or if there are discounts, sales tax, shipping cost, etc.

But, I see that the new Gibson USA standards are about $5,000 in Germany, they are about $2,800 in the US.

Not sure about in Germany but in UK a Gibson LP standard would set me back £1900 new ( $2300 ) .

So a LP standard and 1959 HW brand new in UK right now £4000 give or take which is approx $4500 Just to put a perspective on it .

Might be easy to switch out the PT in a 1959hw or 1987x if the 240 versions don’t have a buried tap for 120. Not so sure about other models

Could someone here who has a European/UK 1959HW please confirm or refute whether the amp has a switchable mains voltage and/or rewireable PT for 120V operation? I need to know this before starting my USA importing/reselling empire.

Are the 220v amps already optionally dual voltage wired for both,110 & 220?
Can US customers just wire a new 12-3 plug to hot- neutral and grd and play? Like say a compressor or welder? Or does it require a major conversion?

Those hand wired Deluxe’s cost $2700 here in the US. Sounds like you got a deal. But, I see that the new Gibson USA standards are about $5,000 in Germany, they are about $2,800 in the US.

A Les Paul Standard is under $2k in Germany.

They wouldn’t ‘want to’ but if word gets out to US distributors that this is going on I would imagine there would be brushback. No way Thomann authorizes that—someone caught the right idiot on their lucky day.

The "brushback" could be Marshall suggesting their US distributors lower their prices. Absent some price-fixing conspiracy among retailers, I suspect they're the middle man responsible for this. Hard to see how it benefits Marshall themselves, as it makes their products significantly less competitive.

Sure, and gas in the US is only high because oil companies are greedy lol. Regardless, none of that is relevant: US distribution as a whole is MUCH more important to Marshall than one Euro retailer. If Thomann were authorizing US shipments they would be yanked as a reseller in a second.

Back in 1989, I was living in LA and all I wanted in life was a les paul and a Marshall. I didn't have the money for it so I bought a strat instead. Nothing has changed. It's still too expensive...
