I have owned my 2555x for a couple years now and am curious about trying some different tubes. I have heard that the tubes Marshall uses are not very good. I am guessing that messing with the pre-amp tubes will probably make a bigger difference since I rarely run it past 6 or 7 on the master. ANyone have a tube combo they really like? I am looking to get a decent amount of bottom end and maybe something that does wel with high gain.

There really isn't a preamp tube that will improve bottom end...
The stock preamp tubes were probably a JJ low microphonic in V1 and shuguangs in V2 & V3. ( Red lable JJ, white labels Shugs).
They are not bad preamp tubes at all.

Power tubes could be Tung Sol or JJ. Mine came with Tung Sol. I can tell you that the tung Sols sounded much fuller/ bigger than JJ EL34's.

The jube doesn't have a cathode follower circuit so you can use any brand of 12ax7.
    I believe I am running Tung Sol in V1 & V2 and a Sovtek LPS in V3.

Play with the bias. Sometimes cooler is better.

The power tubes do make a difference. I have not tried Ruby/Shuguang's in my 2555X yet, but I did roll through a few brands in my JCM 2000 and settled on them along with JJ preamps. I liked them enough to buy 2 sets of backup quads too.

Ive been running a run of the mill gt 12ax7c in v1 and the shuguang that came in v2. I replaced v3 with a sovtek lps. For power tubes I've been running gt el34 m's with good results.

I don't remember what was in my 2558 but I run an NOS Mullard in V1 and a Raytheon BP in the PI. Smooth. For more gain I still think the stock Shugs in V1.

+ 1 on the Shugs in V1. Fat and creamy in my original

Try the EH 6CA7 for more bottom.

Maybe I should run the Mullard in V2 and put a Chinese in V1.

Mine had tungsols in the power section. I know that when i received it the bias was way off. 85 on one side and 60 on the other. I tried putting them both to 70 as recommended made a big difference. Some people seem to like it biased at 73-75 but i didn't hear a difference.
