Don't know about you, but I'm tired of hearing music recorded with nothing but fizzy preamp distortion. It doesn't have any depth.

I hear these extreme metal dude's recordings...

    Chugga
    Chugga
    Chugga
    Squeeeeeeeeal
    Chugga
    Chugga
    Chugga
    Squeeeeeeeeal

....and I can imagine it all taking place at conversation level in the studio, while the recording engineers share jello and fruit recipes in the control room.

What about live concerts? Are guitar players sending politically correct sound levels to the sound guy? Does anyone still use their amp as an integral part of their instrument?

All this bedroom-level mania....it can't be good for our digestion.

Dime your amp today. Show it you still care.

Actually, I cranked up the YJM yesterday ... have been reading a lot of posts about the SV20 being too loud, so I set the YJM at 20W out of curiosity (never had it set there before). I can confirm that it's pretty loud ... not painfully so, but it's a good kick (would def need to attenuate it to use it at home).

The damage ive done to my hearing over the years in incalculable at this point. So what good is it now to go down to some expensive 20w lunchbox? Im with ya here: i got a couple 50w Marshalls and a 350w hybrid sitting on four 4x12s. Im not gonna focus on bedroom levels at this point: excess is best lol

I'm tempted to attribute it to the fact that worldwide, testosterone levels and sperm counts are dropping.

An amp cranked up so loud that it can shatter windows is SCARY. It takes guts to face scary things. Even more guts required to solo on them.

If there's any substance to those thoughts, then I'm pleased to note that my T levels are still OK.

A cranked and crunchy yet controllable Superlead is WAY more fun than a high gain uber amp at a medium volume level.

And a big part of that fun is the DYNAMICS of it. How you can go from quiet to HOLY HELL just at the twist of the guitar's volume knob, or by varying pick pressure,
is a form of magic you completely lose when you've got so much gain it's compressed beyond any hope of doing the same thing with your volume knob.

If that's toxic masculinity then I want to be poisonous. :hbang:

For me playing alone with an acoustic is much more intimidating than playing a cranked amp with a band. For that matter I don't recall ever thinking loud amps were scary. I always just thought they were fun!..but I got nothing against small amps. They're cool too imo.

A lot of those low wattage amps sound like a cheap fuzz box.

You can bet your hairy, testosterone-infused ass that probably has a lot to do with it.

That's probably a huge portion of what's causing all our world's problems. We're surrounded by estrogen and progesterone.

    Scary times.

Quiet amps and feminine world domination. What's next? The alpaca lips?

Nah, but the trend toward small amps may be a symptom of a larger problem....:hmm:

Trelwheen, I adore you. But you really went off your nut into the realm of complete and total misunderstanding with this one. I don't feel like preaching tonight, so lemme just leave you with this: do what you like and crank your Malmsteen backdrop to 10. Just be careful or you'll shoot your eye out with that thing.

Geez Vin, I adore you too! You sweet thing you.

And I was saddened to hear that Mr. Malmsteen has a back drop. Can this be corrected surgically, and does it affect his guitar playing?

Have you dimed your amp tonight?

That stands to reason.....after all, bigger amps can often be a symptom of a smaller problem, yes?

Well... yes and no. I mean there's a time and place for everything, and sometimes clearing your eardums out can be as refreshing as a 24-cut pizza and a 5 gallon vat of Diet Coke.

So, all things in moderation then?

    :D
