I'd say that's a pretty accurate representation. If you listen, you can hear the difference in low end or "Girth", which is typically difficult to hear in recordings, but you can feel "in the room". In the upper frequencies, you won't hear much difference.

Well I think @marshallmellowed nailed it. The biggest difference in the two is in the low end and punch. A 20 watt amp can’t be expected to keep up with a 50/100 watt amp in overall fullness and punch. But I think the SC20 does a great job and is fairly close to the 2204.

The SC20 is a home run for Marshall, as well as the SV20 imo!

The SC20 sounds much better to me, at just woke up at 5am low volume. Always consume Marshall with your morning coffee I say.

Can someone that has both the SC20 and SV20 take a look at their output tubes. Both of mine have "Marshall" branded tubes, but the output tubes in my SV20 look like a JJ variant (domed vs. flat'ish on top).

After having the Studio Classic combo for some time, what I've been thinking about doing next year is hunting down a late 70s JMP 2203. I like the Studio Classic combo so much, but would like to have some headroom so my goal is to save up for the JMP. If we're all still playing and enjoying our Studio amps by then, which I'm pretty confident that we will, I might throw up a video. I know it won't be a fair comparison but I'm thinking about throwing caution to the wind at that point. Bonus points if my posters fall off the wall during the shoot.

SV has JJ and the jubilee has tungsols which I like best. SC probably JJ

I believe they both came with the domed top Marshall branded JJs. Mine currently have the flat top re-issue Mullard.

My SC20H has dome top JJ's. They sound just as sweet as my NOS SED Wing =C='s. This flummoxed my whole plan to cuss and hate on the JJ's.

Based on positive reviews from some of you guys, I bought a used TC Spark Booster (4 knob) for $57 shipped. I intended on trying one out first, but I haven't seen one used for under $70, so I couldn't prevent my finger from hitting the button. I'll be trying it with both the SV20 and SC20.

Not me, are you thinking about doing it? It's curious that the SC20 and the SV20 have the smaller script while the Jubilee Studio has the larger script.

I kinda like the smaller script on the smaller heads. The mini Jub has been out a number of years before it was incorporated in to the Studio line this year.

I had seen a used one on ebay that someone had changed. I remember it looking pretty good, have to see if I can find a link to it.

@marshallmellowed have you ever played your 1959 with 2 power tubes, if so did you hear a tone difference? Comparing that to your 1987x how do they compare? I never played a 1959 I read they are more open sounding than a 1987x. I did own a 1987x briefly and I liked it but it did have some compression to the tone I wasnt expecting. All I want is 50 watts, so I'm trying to decide if I were to get a full sized plexi to go for a 1959 and pull 2 tubes or 1987x.

No, I've never done that, as I have two other non-master amps (1987x and JTM 45). Although it uses KT66's, the JTM 45, with a different bright cap, actually sounds closer to the 1959 than the 1987x.

How would you describe the tonal difference between the 1959 and 1987x?

Originally I was thinking I wanted a 1987x but now I'm thinking a 1959. I wanted EL34, an effects loop, a JTM45 has KT66 and a rectifier so I'm thinking it wouldnt be as tight, is that a correct assumption?
