I've owned this pedal for a couple months now and I have to say that it impresses me every time i step on it. It REALLY does produce cranked tube amp tone. I've owned and sold at least 50 or 60 pedals over the years and I've heard some good overdrives. This one hits it out of the park. To my ears it just nails the British overdrive we all know and love. It has a full eq, mid low high, drive, volume, and presence. You dial it in just like you would an amp. I got it to play through my fender twin at lower volumes but I'll be damned if I dont end up playing it with my jam mates at full volume. It is a stellar pedal.
The Dirty Shirley is a fine pedal... ...but do yourself a favour and check out the Origin Effects Revival Drive 14 minutes - worth listening all the way through, too.
I have the BE OD, run it into my DSL Green/clean....best pedal I've ever had...although I did have to dial the internal trim pot back a ways... I am not surprised to hear that you love it. Based on your post, I want to try a DS! ....this is from a pretty hard-core "straight in" kinda guy too...
The ds also has a "tight" switch. It's a toggle on the side of the box that switches between tones, one kinda airy and loose, the other tight and focused. I like them both.
@purpleplexi , @BanditPanda c'mon guys. Yah play with knobs all day long, what's a few more... They're color-coded, they're logically laid out, what more do you want. Sheesh... I bet you guys drive automatics and start to panic when a stick shift drives past. I found your perfect pedal...
Throw all your other pedals away. This will do them all - it "knows" what you want. It uses ground unicorn horn and unobtanium to read your mind. Totally frees up both hands to twiddle the knobs and tuners on your guitar and amp.
"......it "knows" what you want. " I'm working on that pedal design now. the Mind Meld Over Drive. BP
I really like my Dirty Shirley. It only likes a clean amp though, it's not great into a dirty one. Stacks ok with other gain pedals but best on it's own to my ears.
Do you have one? It won't sound better than my ethos TWE -1. It just won't. It might do more but it won't be better. When I get back to the UK I'll bring it down and we'll have a bake off. I'm not far from you....
Nah - don't have one, don't want one, only posted it because it was a) a guitar pedal and b) had no knobs. Sounds like a total piece of crap to my tired ears and YouTube's audio fuckery... Even the one Fillmore did with two pots was a tone vacuum for me. Vintage Technology, White Sands, VOX V816, Dongeomac - it's a silicon fuzz, end of. Bleagh... As for coming over to play... WELCOME ...but can we put Covid-19 away first - I developed asthma five years back and it makes me nervous
I still havent messed with the internal gain pot. I might dial it back. It breathes fire when dimmed.
I have been really interested in both the Dirty Shirley amp and pedal. It appears to be a DS in a box... of course nothing is the same as the real amp... but that pedal sounds wicked! I am curious, have you tried it in the effects loop? I have read it pairs best with a clean foundation... anyways I am curious if it would be a wicked pre amp pedal or atleast used like a preamp pedal into a effects loop return.
You get what you pay for with pedals. If you wanna save money and not have junk boss is a good way to go. When it comes to drive and fuzz I tend to sniff a little cork.
