The stripey back sounds its struggling to be the Eminence 70 it could never be.

    Im thumbs-down on the EVH.

    Everything EVH in fact.

I know his setup the first few albums and this Celestion is on my NO list:

    G12-30
    G12s-
    G12L-
    G12M-70
    G12-50
    G12-35
    G12K-85
    G12K-100

Ed's been curiously misguiding those on the beaten path seeking his tone which is a tactic I reject.

The stripey back is another non performer I have no interest in.

The Lynchback G12M-50, 25, Heritage 70 are much better choices

Consider that many whom buy EVH brand gear are not trying to sound like EVH, not even a little, myself included.

Yeah I had not considered that at all.

I suppose if I found an EVH3 head at the Goodwill or a yardsale I'd fall in live with it too

I shall see. Currently it's in a box. When the 2x12 comes in, it will be in that. If I like it, it stays, if I don't, it'll be replaced. The 2x12 will be shared with a SV20H and a Blackstar HT. Only time, and my ears, will tell.

The cabinet I ordered made it. So did the Marshall placard I put on it. ;)
So I now have an Celestion EVH Signature G12H and a Celestion Greenback G12M side by side.

Quick OP review, as stated above, the EVH was a little dark for my tastes, especially in its closed 1x12. I replaced it with the G12M. That was too thin sounding in a 1x12. So this journey began...

The 2x12 has a removable panel on the back and can be either open or closed. I have it open. I think the two speakers really compliment each other. I love the sound. I feel like the frequency range is broad and balanced. I've played multiple guitars with a variety of setups, as well as trying different pedals, including using octave down, octave up, heavy fuzz, and bright harmonic tremolo, etc.

I thought there was a 50/50 chance I would hate it and be rolling speakers. But I can leave this alone.

Additionally, the cab is shared by two amp heads, and it sounds great with both. And lastly, I have a Fender Blues Junior combo with a 12" Jensen C12-N speaker in it. I sometimes play a wet/dry stereo with the Fender. All 3 speakers sound amazing together.

    My :2c: update.
