I owned an SV20 and know it's downsides -how loud it is when at or near full gain, but recently became aware of some mods available to add a MV and another gain stage.

I am so used spending a lot of $ on amp I overlook cheaper priced ones, however the DSL20HR has recently came up on my radar due to all reviews raving about it.

I would like to cover 70's classic rock to 80's snarl, whci amp would fit the bill better? Or I should rather ask how do these two match up?

It all comes down to sound and features you like, SV and DSL have totally different sound and functionality. If you already have an SV order the DSL and do a comparison at home and send back the amp you dont like. :yesway:

I have the the SC20 and the DSL20HR... It is an amazing value when compared. I use the DSL more because it's easier to get a great sound without getting a headache!

Yeah i owned the SC20 and it only sounded good really cranked up, even then it was a pretty generic gain tone. The clips of the DSL20hr sound so killer I just bought one!!

The 2nd vid is horrid. It should be titled 'All the un useable tones in these amps' :io:I will check out the 1st vid later, hopefully it's better.

I own every one of Marshall's current 20 watters and have owned the Origin 20.
If somebody held a gun to my head and said they were going to take all my 20 watt amps but I could keep just one ( price not a point here) I would keep the DSL20HR.
I was just doing some Kemper profiling with my DSL20HR and have made the best profile of the amp so far!
DSL20HR tubed with all Mullard AX7's and EL34's into my Bogner 4x12 w/ greenbacks/Marshall Vintage speakers, micing the Greenback with a MD421.......Now, that is what a good DSL sounds like! This setup attenuates some of the annoying fizz you can get with a DSL. The Bogner cab has a thick grill cloth which does the trick. BTW, the Marshall 2061CX cab has the same grill cloth.

    Yep, that's a DSL20H.
I was diggin' the feedback he was getting - wish I could play like that.
I run mine through a pair of MX112s. (stock Seventy-80s, for now)
I changed V1 to a JJ802 and cut a little of the high gain, but there's still plenty left.

Given your stable, that is a very informed opinion. A second gunman arrives, Kemper or DSL20HR? (Again price not the point)
