Something to do. I like it. Smooth at the top kind of hollow in the middle and tight on the bass. It's staying. Unless I blow it. For reasons I don't understand Alnico speakers seem fragile. I used to have 2 - blew the other one comprehensively.

If this post should be in the speaker section please move it right along.

    Many recommend 200% coverage for wattage, i.e. 100W speaker in a 50W combo (speaker/amp x 100).
The stock 70W V-Type gives 175% coverage in the 40CR.
The 50W rating of the Red Fang is pretty close to the limit of the 40CR output at 125% coverage.
Is that your main reason to think it would fail, or the alnico aspect?
I have a 60W G12CV in mine, which still leaves only 150% coverage.
But I also run the V-Type in a 112 cab too, giving 300% total coverage. Not that I ever get close to needing it!

I had 2 red fangs in a 2 x 12 ( shock). Dimed the 50 watt plexi at an outdoor gig. Evil farting sound - 1 speaker dead. Sent it back and they said the voice coil was absolutely destroyed and no they wouldn't replace it.
The second one survived somehow and sat in the box for several years after I put the V30s back in the 2 x 12. To be honest I don't remember a huge tonal difference when I put them in the 2 x12 but it sounds really nice in the 40 CR.
I'll keep it in there and cross my fingers. Or I could try a V30 in the CR. That would give me a bit more leeway but I might not like it so much.

Well that sucks about the blown Red Fang!
Good to know that the remaining one works well in the 40CR though.
I've only ever tried stock or Celestion replacements in my amps so far.

Figure if I keep it in 20 watt mode I ought to be safe.
