I restored this old 4x12 cabinet. Had had some rubbers-is covering glued ontop of the old rexin. Had to remove it all with heat gun.

    • 3 orignal alnicos T0652 (1963) and one earlier B025 all with old H1777 cones.
    • It was wired like this I don't know fig its original or not.
    • Original gold fascia t strip pieced together and re installed
    • Leather straps newer
    • Feet were later additions in plastic but work.
    • Mostly original screws.
    • Made of Khaya/Mahogany aka Gaboon
    • The foam - I have the original it came of easy, but I could not glue it back on as it deteriorated so foam is made of an old 70 mattress... :)
    • Old Logo
    • Repaired old Vynair grill cloth

Killer cab. Absolutely stunning. With the original Vynair one of a kind.

Very nice job :) I did the same, but didn't have original Vynair.
I used the white repro pinstripe. A piece of history!

Superb. You have the matching head to go with it?

I see the little gabon sticker on the wood there, is that original?

yes sticker is original but I found it behind the foam
Put on the baffle so it could be seen, not really 100% historical correct but I think it better to show it

I didn’t want to accidentally over glue it when I put in the foam

Here is a pic of the sticker

Occasionally these stickers are found on the plywood boards that Marshall made the cabs of. One can also find these on other products made of Gabon plywood as Cupboards, doors and furniture from the 50´s and 60´s.

As I wrote above I found this sticker originally behind the foam on one of the sides but put it in the baffle to show it off... ;)

Jan Z found these links showing the stickers used on other items...

Here is a pic of another Gabon sticker inside a another cabinet that was unfortunately cut for side handles and painted with some ugly stuff.

I believe the stickers were just put on the mahogany plywood boards (By the plywood manufacturer "CFG" and sometimes ended up being inside the cabinet. The pic here shows that the sticker was on before the rim to hold the baffle as part of it is covered by the rim.

ByGoneTone Brian might be able to shed some more light on this.

Not much more to add. That hacked up cab was one I got very lucky with about ten years ago on ebay, took a bit of a punt on it not even sure if it was a Marshall at the time. Sold it way too cheaply compared with what they are worth now, but it was in fairly rough condition. Not a lot you can do when the sides are hacked up like that.

    Excellent work!
    What vinyl did you use?
Is that gold trim in the piping slots original and the same stuff used on the front strip of the 64-65 heads?

Yes I know you did! I followed that tread when you did that a few years back. It inspired me! :)

Do you still have that cab or did you sell it? I need more ;) Tom Hinson still have one more old cabinet like these than I do, and the one with most gear when he dies wins! ;)

    Haha! :)

I was waiting for some Rexin Tom Hinson sent me, that he got from Ray Z, but it got lost in the mail in these Corona times. I found this in a local shop...

But you have had some other cabs with these stickers right?

I have seen two others with these stickers.

They were definitely not put on by Marshall in my opinion but by the plywood manufacturer of the boards and sometimes these stickers ended up inside the cab and were therefore preserved. (If the sticker ended up on the outside which was to be covered with rexin/vinyl ot would probably have been removed...

Here it is again with a matching early offset head (This is not my offset but an amp I got in to restore for a guy in France, member of the JTM Club. Real cool amp. will post pics of that in a separate thread in the vintage section later.)

I know of another one, but didn't own it myself. It was bought by ampaholics. An early 1965 slant, block logo. Possibly this cab.

The seller made a website and put loads of pictures of it up showing the insides etc, but he took it down once it had sold, and I didn't save the photos :( This was maybe 10 years ago or so.
