    ive made a breakthrough...

ive finally discovered how to get my recordings to sound full/big/"mastered" if you will. the right plug in makes all the difference.

im slow to figure this stuff out sometimes. anyway, this is not necessarily a well written song, its an expression of....something? in any event, it finally comes across pretty close to the way I want to hear it.

I hope it sounds ok on your system.

Way cool! Kinda trippy in a way. Some background vocals would be cool too! :yesway:

the lyrics and vocals are powerful, and, within the mood of the song; more than a bit haunting in my opinion.

unfortunately I don't have anything other than an incomplete scratch version of them, and my vocalist is rather picky about not putting stuff in the public domain until she feels its how she wants it.

thank you for the comment. :yesway:

"Haunting" is actually what I was trying to put into words regarding the vocal addition. I would love to hear the finished product!

I quite enjoyed that, thank you for sharing.
I daresay the snare might be able to come through a little better.
    More gain? Eq/compression tweak? I don't know.
It just seems like with the acoustic guitars panned where they are, the snare is somehow losing just a little of it's "percussive authority" in the center of the mix?
Feel like the track would rock a little harder if the snare was allowed just a little more "attitude".

    thank you lord.

my singer wanted more snare in the mix as well, I was afraid of overdoing it...

in previous incarnations I had the snare a bit more aggressive as you suggest as well, a little nastier....but she liked the tight/dry cleaner snare from the very original version... I tried to find a balance.

its got to sit with the rest of the kit...the floor toms are pretty aggressive, up front, and are the "base"....everything sort of revolves around them to my thinking. a very clean snare sounds a bit out of place.

I will bump it up a dB or two and see how that works. great feedback...

thanks for the support fellas...its nice to hear.

Coronado, ive never used EZ drummer the program, but I do have an EZ drummer extension pack (Rock!) which is compatible with SD.

the main differences that im aware of are that SD has deeper layers in its samples, and also several additional features. for example, EZ has "snare" and "snare comp" in the mixer section. the SD kits have snare top/snare bottom/snare comp. which provides more customizing flexibility. I believe there are several more "customizable" features within SD compared to EZ, but I don't know that with 100% certainty. also the SD kits are bigger than the EZ kits.

funny thing is, I seem to so far find myself using the EZ kit more often than the SD kit. I just like the kits better. but I only have the kits that came with SD and the one EZ extension pack. so my experience is limited to those two.

the cool thing is that if you have the patience to really dig in, you can use two or more different snares (for example) together to create your own "sounds".

on this track I think im using two different EZ snares plus the old DR rhythm jazz snare blended together. its really cool to have those options, but of course mixing becomes more complicated. its worth the extra time though I think.
