    Ahh, memory lane ...

Had another thought while posting about cigarette lighters, and while it wasn't directly related to roller skating rinks, it did obviously lead there. My favorite memories of the roller skating rink? When the power ballad would come on, and you'd link hands with the girl you had a crush on

Oh, and Mickey ... the connection (a long since bitter sweet favorite roller skating memory) ... this was around the time that I had to learn to do my own laundry. On one trip to the roller skating rink, I had spent my saved up money on an incredibly cool 3/4 length Motley Crue t-shirt, only to have it *disappear* in the laundry. I knew what was up. I never let another person (ok, outside of a professional service) touch my clothing again. Wanna know the hilarious kicker? My Mom admitted it years later (she HATED those rock t-shirts lol!)

    To Roller Skating Rinks.

(song? don't ask ... just happened)

You must be my age or a bit older.
I got to the roller skating at its end I believe. I was not rich enough for extra caricular nightime events with the "in crowds" of my time. That was the late 70's.
I was in high school when Motles Crue hit.

For sure. It's a bullseye for me. Can tell anyone what they wanna know about it. If you had your own skates you were God. Hot-boxing a cigarette between 5 dudes in the john quickly before and "authority" came in there. The cooler 18+ dudes and chicks got to smoke in a designated area. Hokey Pokey - under tones of near simulated sex from the girl's perspective. There was no underlying and unspoken system of rank like that of the after-school roller rink. Most of us were just dorks wearing the rentals.

My mate got a Maiden transfer on the back of an old British Army battle jacket, and badges on the front. I gave him a pair of British Corporal stripes to sew on the arms, it kicked arse. His Mum slyly threw it out

OMG yes! I think rentals used to be like 75 cents in the 80s I think It was like two dollars to get in the door. But yes I remember that's the time the motley Crue album come out I remember asking thm to play Helter skelter and they were sketched out but they did play it for us

The skating rink (ice in fall/winter/spring, roller in summer) was kitteh corner from the building I lived in growing up as a kid.
I spent countless hours there skating (blades and wheels but mostly blades) and playing hockey.

When I was in high school, skating rinks were where all the bands played for the under 18 crowd. I remember playing while half the floor were facing the stage and the rest were skating!

I actually saw Savatage play at the same roller skating rink we played at!!!!
