He was born in Cleveland, and I grew up in NE Ohio. They were a big deal locally back in the 70's. Had some pretty good songs, check 'em out on YouTube.

I mean, they were national too, not just some local band, don't get me wrong, lol.

    Michael Stanley Band (MSB).

EDIT: I guess my point is; Another classic rocker from 'back in the day' has left us.

Very sad news. I had never heard of (The) Michael Stanley (Band) until I went to college in SE Ohio in 1980. Lots of students from NE Ohio - Michael Stanley was a very big deal. So I listened to some albums and found that I really liked his music a lot. Cabin Fever, Greatest Hints, MSB, and a host of other really good albums. He could write some memorable songs and lyrics with some classic lines, even about putting the white lines on the highway. Spanish Nights is one of my favorites. I had a chance to see him live in Athens, Ohio in 1982 - great show. I’ve enjoyed watching some videos online over the past several years.

When I was playing out regularly in early 2000’s, I’d play a couple MSB tunes. I often opened a show with Midwest Midnight - slower acoustic version. It was funny hearing folks in their 20’s singing along without knowing, I’m sure, the song’s origin.

Thank you Jeff for posting this news, as sad as it is. Condolences to his family. Michael Stanley touched a great many more lives than he probably realized.

Agreed. Lots of really good songs, and they were definitely bigger than most people would probably realize.

I met Michael at a guitar store west side of Cleveland @ Lentine's in 90, 91 or so. It doesn't it exists any longer, it was a good sized shop. Nice guy, he was excited about a custom guitar made for him and handed it to me to give it a spin. This surprised me as well, RIP Michael.
