    I think the RR1's are Poly finish not Nitro - yeah?

    The why has been established and can easily be avoided for further damage.

    Knowing what it's made with is key if the OP plans on applying a chemical cleaner, what may work on Poly may mess up Nitro and vise versa...

    It would be best to let sleeping dogs lie, change the rubber out on the hanger and not mess with the finish, but he seem intent on trying to clean it off. Bad move IMO, but hey it's not my guitar. If I were him I would test whatever he's going to use on it, under the pickguard, or in the pickup rout first to see if it eats the finish before going anywhere near the neck.

    It would be nice to see an actual picture of the damage though.
