Strange one tonight...... Gave the Origin 50H a blast tonight, probably playing for around 90 mins at 2:00 on the master volume, then a smell of fish (burning electrics) started to waft from the back of the amp. It still sounded good :/ It is the first time it has been played in over a year but it does not smell like a bit of dust burning off, any ideas? still under warranty.
Take the back panel off and have a look inside. How do you cook fish - if it smells like burning electronics?
Smells like fish? You know this could branch off in a lot of weird directions from here. Seriously though, do you have a cat?
Exactly! This is why my music room is closed off to cats at all times...I did catch one of them pissing on the library wall today when I turned on the lights.
Might just be the PCB and/or tubes running hot and giving off an odor. I'd visually check the output tubes next time to make sure they are not red plating or running over biased.
Check your impedance is correct. Make sure the smell is not coming from your mains wire. This sounds like wire burning cable jacket or something melting. Ozone smells and dust burning smells are somewhat okay including FRFR cabs doing this but fish smells are stronger and that indicates wiring overheating problems. That can cause fire.
Fish smell? Leaking, blown up electrolytic capacitor, guaranteed. Time to take it to an amp tech for a fairly quick and simple repair. DON'T use the amp until it's been repaired.
Trust me, I got it in one. When capacitors blow, it smells like rancid fish oil. Or the worst date you don't want to remember.
Maybe its the FISHman pickups your using or the D-TUNA ? We're you playing some classic thrash like Exodus' PIRANHA or Accept's Fast as a SHARK? Sorry Bud, I couldn't help myself. I hope everything is good with your amp.
Fishman amps have that problem. Also, don't have the volume cranked to the gills, you have to scale it in.
Maybe Win Lu used a warm power tube as an "insert" back in the test room bathroom. Put your tongue on it and see if it tastes like chicken.
Dear Cod...I've never laughed so hard. I'm hooked! Sorry, my attempt at a joke was a pile of carp. Carry on, I will leave this guys amp problem for salmon else.
