Sorry this thread has taken such a turn into the very deep dark side. There are
indeed times to joke and to not joke. Looking back at a "Going to Tupelo" forum thread,
I can now clearly see that this is a time to not joke. Instead, it's a time to strictly "keep it to business"
by exercising only the formalist level of "ball room" ...esque etiquette and behavior practices.
I almost cannot believe myself what has transpired here. It's repulsive, to say the least.

As I said, have fun on your trip, Torren and remember:
The MF Tupperware party follows one week after you get back.

(I know you know we were joking. :))

Isn't Tupelo named after some kind of fish?

Nah, AFAIK, it' a tree

The DeSoto expedition landed around there in the 1540's,the 1st Europeans to come to the Mid South.
They tried to force the locals to carry their sh*t. This did not go over well with the Chickasaw. They killed the Spaniards ,causing them to flee West and "discover" the Mississippi River . That's why we have the Hernando DeSoto bridge ,De Soto County and Hernando MS

I've been back for a few days. Weird trip. The flight from here to Denver was fine. Got to Memphis and I had a text message from United. Seems my bag went to Chicago. I had no toiletries with me and only the clothes I was wearing but those are first world problems, huh? The airline was going to have a courier bring my bag to Tupelo.

Got to Tupelo early and pick up up my son and my oldest granddaughter and drove four hours to Vicksburg. We did a bit of a tour of the battlefield and saw the movie. Vicksburg overlooked the Mississippi river and kept the Union from getting supplies past the fort. The Union laid siege to the city and finally took the fort and that was pretty much the end of the Confederacy.

I was able to find the spot where my namesake ancestor fought and I stood there.

My bag arrived at the hotel at 8pm which was fine because I arrived a half hour later.

The weather was fine and I had a great time with everyone.

I made it from Tupelo to the TN state line in one hour and ten minutes. I caught a convoy and buried myself right in the middle. The Hilton upgraded me as I was the guest of the day. 26th floor suite.

Got the car back and made it through TSA with no issues. Memphis to Denver flight was diverted and made an emergency landing in Wichita due to a woman who had a diabetic emergency. We sat on the tarmac for two and a half hours until a flight mechanic gave us the thumbs up to fly out to Denver.

Missed my connector for home. The booked me on a flight to San Francisco, first class. I had a four hour layover there and the flight back home was delayed due to fog but eventually, I made it home at 8pm. My bag was the first coming through the carousel. Woot! Almost hit a deer in the fog but I didn't.

I'm really glad to be home. Mississippi and Wichita are too flat. Not my thing at all.
