My first Marshall was a JCM combo which came with winged Cs. I was a noob - took them out, put god knows what in there and threw the Cs in a box. Sold the JCM to a mate who still has it. He's cleverer than me. Years later I threw the Cs in another amp and it was a revelation. Many years on and one of them died so I still have the other one. Keep meaning to get another set but they're big bucks these days. I love what they do to the bass though - so tight. These days it's GT mullard replicas for me.

Also should mention I put a pair of GL KT66s in my plexi and one of them died in a very noisy way after not very long. They looked cool though. And sounded pretty good.

I concur on good experiences with Winged Cs. It's not difficult to find unused EL34s for $50/unit either, often in matched pairs/quads.
