I’ve been looking for an E7 or E10 series strat for a while. Finally hooked up with a sweet Lake Placid Blue ‘62. Pretty much the same specs as a MIJ ST-362. These were built in Korea in 1987-88 by Young Chang.

It has an alder body with a maple top and back veneer. I have no idea why. Vintage style full spaced bridge with bent saddles and a big block. MIJ Fender/Gotoh tuning machines. Super glossy USA looking finish on the neck that doesn’t really come through in the pics.

I set it up with .010’s and I am floored by the fit and finish. These have to be a real sleeper. It’s unreal to get a guitar of this quality for under $300. The neck is a little on the thin side but it’s fast. Another bottom-feeder gem - I love ‘em.

Ah, Lake Placid Blue. The ultimate color for a 60's style strat. Does it have a slab board RW finger board?

Oh yeah. Somebody put modern Fender alnico pickups in it. Im not sure what they are exactly. They have beveled magnets, and they have a nice vintage tone. I’m going to leave them in unless I just happen stumble into a custom shop set.

HNGD! Nice guitar, I like Lake Placid Blue (both on Fenders and Cadillacs). Decent price, particularly if she plays well and sounds good. Seems like a good catch.

Thanks, the build quality is the same as the MIJ ST-362 model Fender. I actually traded a MIJ Squier Contemporary strat for it. After a 2 year run of E7 and E10 serial number 57 and 62 models, they went to plywood bodies and a 12” radius.

They moved Squier production to Korea to offer a cheaper price point in the first place, but it took them a while to use cheaper quality necks and bodies as well as the cheaper electronics they were already using.

I had just started working in a music store about the time these came out, and refused to even consider the MIJ and MIK guitars. It took me 20 years to come around.
