Picked this up today. Made in USA, SG Special in Vintage Sparkling Burgundy. Pictures aren't great. I took them in the guitar shop. You can see dust, and the pickguard protective coating is still on. I will try to get some better pictures later. When it stops raining in the Houston area.

Very nice, I like the SG’s but every one I’v played has a pretty chunky neck. Are all SG’s fitted with a chunky neck?

My experience is the '62 style' pickguard-models have a skinnier neck, than the later 'batwing' pickguard-models like the old Faded-Special's, which are chunky-er. My 2019 P-90 Special, like the OP's here, has a relatively skinny neck. (skinny, front to back, that is)

Sometimes I marvel at Gibson's design choices

Do they even REALIZE that, if they just stuck in some EMGs or Fishmans or modern Seymours and a modern hardtail with adjustable saddles, this thing would sell like hotcakes to a huge new market????

There's a shitload of SG's to choose from. This is the one I chose for me.

Beautiful guitar! I have a blue one, but my fretboard is much lighter than yours. Mine feels like Rosewood, but it is much more light and grey. Crank an amp and start playing some Live at Leeds!

I think mine is darker because the guitar shop oiled the crap out of the fretboard. First time I played it my finger tips turned black. The action is too low, there's a little buzz. (Neck is fine.) In the next couple of days it's getting new strings. Current ones have oil all over them. I'll clean the hell out of the guitar, and get the action right with the new strings. Then :shred:.

SG's generally don't have "chunky" necks , not like a Les Paul ...I never thought the proportions just wouldn't quite match up ...if they put a LP proportioned neck on an SG

Earlier SG's have much wider necks and maybe a hair deeper . By '66 they had really dwindled down to a "pencil" neck and basically stayed that way 'til the early 80's when they started to girth back out . There's a LOTTA skinny neck SGs out there

My '65 Special , a wide neck . Not too deep ,but not bad either
