Wow, I agree, that IS fugly, lol.
That looks awesome to me!
That is so much better than stock, in my opinion.
A transparent (not a burst) red or blue, with a faux binding would also look great, I think.
I thought about doing something like that, but I tried staining it when I first stripped it and it was a disaster. It took forever to sand it back down to bare wood. I don't think I'll be trying to stain it again.
I love this guitar in every way except I have one gripe. I can't believe Gibson let this go on a Standard! This nut is not cut right, it looks like the original nut as far as I can tell and I don't know if anyone's worked on it, but even if they have they couldn't have moved the slots over like this. I keep pushing the low E off the edge when playing. It's really starting to piss me off and once again I have to put a new nut on a Gibson. I had to replace the nut on my 60s Tribute when I bought it, but for a different reason and now I have to replace the nut on a f'kin' Standard!
Actually I have one other gripe but not with the guitar. The case doesn't close all the way in the back and there's a big enough gap you can see the guitar thru the gap. I have a case I bought for my 60s tribute that's much more solid.
Much better!!! Both sound and looks...
