It's finally NGD. YAY! This is, as the thread title suggests, a 1999 Gibson SG Supreme Fireburst. This was the first year for SG Supremes and they phased out the P90s by 2001.

I've always liked these. 24 fret ebony fingerboard with split diamond mother of pearl inlays. P90 pickups. Gold hardware. She weighs 7.7 pounds. Not much wear on this 22 year old guitar.

I've been told the pickups are anemic. Well, so far, they sound fine but I need to play it awhile to get a better read on the guitar. It sounded good through a 1965 Princeton Reverb and a 1973 Marshall Lead JMP 50.

Here are some pictures. The colors are accurate:

I like Fireburst the best. I think Lavaburst would be my second pick.

There are no marks on the back. Those are reflections. There is very, very light buckle rash. This guitar wasn't played a whole lot and I can't figure out why. Either that or the previous owner was OCD about keeping it clean.

Schaller gold strap locks are going on the guitar as soon as they arrive from the seller. I use Schaller strap locks on ALL my guitars. Franklin 3" original straps, too.

I installed the locking tuners just like I do on nearly all my guitars. I have the ones that came on it.

Hardly any to no wear on the frets. The "nibs" are still there.

Hey, thank you! I had a bid in on a 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP and I told my wife if I keep my bid where it was and got outbid and didn't bid it to win it after that, I deserve a consolation prize. She agreed. This is my consolation prize. I sure wanted that Solstice though, lol.

Love it. The first guitar I ever made was basically my rendition of an SG Supreme, only with body binding, a few years before Gibson developed the Supreme.

In 1986 I built this guitar, with the following features: 3 piece flamed maple bound top over a mahogany body, with maple neck-thru construction with an ebony 24 fret fingerboard. I did not bid the neck or headstock because at the time, this being my first hand built guitar, I didn't feel quite ready for that.

35 years later I'd say it still has the best neck of any guitar I've ever made to date. I really nailed my planned neck profile on it.

I feel like I should revisit the design and make another one, just for the fun of it. But a more fully fruited out version, with a better top and binding trimming out everything.

Thanks but I really want to keep it as original as I can. Although not a custom shop, it's kind of a milestone in the history of Gibson SG guitars being a first year.

    HNGD! :applause:

That's one of the best looking SG's I've seen. How did you find a 1999 in such immaculate condition? Seriously, it looks brand new.

    Enjoy! P90's are awesome pickups.

Yeah, totally. I thought you were hinting at swapping them out in your first post. Me, personally, I've never heard of an anemic P90, tbh. I mean, anemic compared to what?

I got REALLY lucky on Reverb. There are signs that it's been played like very light buckle rash on the back. For some reason, one Tone knob has been replaced. I can tell because the font is larger though in the same style and the word Tone is not aligned at 10 to match the others. Someone had replaced the Grover kidney beans with keystones so I put Grover locking tuners on it but the electronics look original. The case is correct but someone forgot the combination and didn't have a key so they jimmied the lock. I bought a new lock to change out when it gets here. And that's about it.

Here's a look at the electronics and pickups. These are stacked. The bridge is stacked under itself but the neck is stacked with the second coil glued to the electronics cavity cover. That's factory. I checked against other examples and they're all like this:

Lol, me neither. That comment came from an SG forum member. Maybe he's comparing them to a DiMarzio Super Distortion, lol.
