With the 8ohm extension, the impedance gets set to 4ohm.
Seller might not have had the 6912, but could have been using any 8ohm cab.

The Stock Speaker should be 8Ohm ..
The standard internal OT Tap On the Combo is factory wired for 4ohm or 8ohm .. The Head is factory wired for 16ohm or 8ohm .. Either can be internally re-wired ..
The late ‘94 & ‘95 years were 5881 with no Lead Mod (LM)

I asked him if he used an extension cab, his answer was in the negative.

    Serial number shows it's a 94.

I think I'll get my tech to take a look at it. All the preamp tube sockets are wobbly and a few noisy pots.

4ohm switch position indicates a standalone mismatch of course ..
We’re you able to try it ?

Yeah, I did try it, it all sounds ok but I think I'll get it checked out anyway. It was a cost neutral exercise and I was willing to pay $1050US for it so if it costs me to retube it I'm ok with that.

Ooops. As long as it still works I guess.
Check bias too. It uses different preamp tubes for each channel. Try to keep as many of those tubes as possible if original. There are lots of switches etc but not bad once you get it set up.

An update on this one. My tech has had it for a few weeks now and says the internals have been messed with. It requires new caps and other parts which he has on order.

I've told him to go ahead and do a full re-valve with, preferably, Tung-Sol 5881's and his choice of preamp valves.

By the way, does anyone know where I can get the matching 6912 cabinet from? Bear in mind that I'm in Australia.

That's probably not going to happen, I've never seen a 6912 by itself.
The set I got was one of the few sets I've ever seen come up on Reverb.
But the 6912 is basically a 1912 with the 200w speaker and the aniversary badge.
Might be easier to just get a 1912 and upgrade the speaker.

It's my understanding the 30-ani amps does anything an 800 can and much more, so I think you'll do fine with it.
I'm a bit surprised they are hard to come by stateside.. there's always atleast one coming up on the different swedish sale sites.. there's two blue ones at the moment... but then, Marshall was always the affordable amps over here compared to most others...
