I've arranged to swap my JCM800 100 watt 2x12 combo for a 6101 30th anniversary, black tolex model with original footswitch and speaker, all original amp.

To me it sounds like I come out in front with this, the seller says the amp is untouched and everything works as it should. I've been looking for one of these for years.

I rarely play the 800, the tubes have, at most, 20 hours on them.

I've also never owned a 30th anniversary series amp.

Does this sound like a good deal? He initially wanted to sell the 6101 for $1350 Australian, which is about $1050 US.

    I'm no expert, never had any 800, and I'm a 6101 noob.
But I think the deal is at the least a fair trade, possibly a bit in your favor as the asking prices for 6101s are higher than 800 series combos on Reverb.
I'd say go for it if it's something you want.
I paid about $1,600 shipped (+ local tax) for the 6101/6912 set from Ireland.

I really would like to get hold of the matching cab but I think I've got more chance of winning lotto, I've never seen one here in Oz.

If you can find the Celestion 200w speaker, or get an equivalent, it's a 1912 with an anniversary tag & gold piping. (I think?)

The S300 was custom built for the UK distribution 6101/6912 by ElectroVoice on contract with Celestion , labeled as Celestion if shipped loaded from Bletchley ..
The USA Distribution of the 6101/6912 were shipped overseas to ElectroVoice unloaded to be loaded with the EV G200-L ...
Identical Speaker sans some paint and the rubber magnet cover !!

    Do it! Do it!
Did you do it? Really cool little amp, amazing for the size.

There was a 1912 for sale here in our local market a few weeks ago plus another full mini stack. Not sure where they are coming from.

In your case it might not serve you too much of a purpose aside your HJS. In fact, you'll just be missing a channel. I'd take it over the 800, but in your HJS you already have that. Compact? It's too heavy to call it that, I think.

I say "for your purpose" because for others three channels may be perfect, or even be too many. It's a great combo no doubt.

Heavy yes. Very compact? Absolutely! Takes up very little space especially compared to a full sized head. No comparison that way at all. Has side handles as well.
JVM head about 48 lbs. Plus weight and size of cab.
6101 is abput 75 lbs and is self sufficient.
I changed the speaker out on mine and saved another 20 lbs. It fits in a very tight spot and can always go up on another cab.

That has 5881 Output Valves, rather than EL34’s?

I'd make that trade all day long! If I was receiving the 6101 of course.

If you’re not using the 800, I’d say go for it @Sir Don.

Keeping in mind, sometimes these things don’t always go well for the both parties in these transactions. So I would be as certain as I could be before pulling the trigger.

(Are we still allowed to say “pulling the trigger”? :nono:)

I'm a bit confused with this, the amp has the 5881 sticker on the front but I thought 5881's were used in the LM series, not the LE.

If all goes to plan I'll pick it up within the next couple of hours.

Interesting, the impedence on the amp was set to 4 ohms, it's an 8 ohm speaker, gonna take me a while to get my head around this amp I think.
