Tuesday I was asked to bring PA to a gig tonight, Wednesday they asked me to do a half set of acoustic, Thursday they said they want me to fill in for 2 sets, Friday I'm in the band and nervous as hell. Wish me luck.

The bass player has to tend bar during the gig because management sucks.

The guy I helped played bass last night, management told me they will hire us back if we get someone else to play bass because he was drunk.

No big deal. Can't robots can do that job in 2017? Do we really need humans playing bass anyway?

That's why keyboard players have a left hand.

    Make some phone calls then?

    And... Good Luck!

This story makes me think that some people found a guy (you) who is capable and does his job.
And, to them, this seemed very unusual. Consequently you have ALL the jobs now.

Thank you. I always wanted to be more than capable of doing the job. Strange set of circumstances though.

    Cheers Grenade.

I may be getting off topic here - and unnecessarily abstract - but I have some thoughts:

If you know your job and you can do it...
... and if you also know that there is an environment in which this job exists and makes sense...

...Just by being able to notice that conjunction you are smarter than the average bear.
