Well... I was going to wait to post this, but here it goes. I just bought the fugliest bass ever It's on the way to my home and I can't wait to play it! It's a headless short scale bass, the neck is made of aluminun and it has a double jazz bass pickup. It can't get any weirder Mine is like that, but in blue.
Good weird score then! I am glad nobody ever told Holdsworth it was fugly when he went headless. sounds good to me!
I keep thinking about getting oneof those Steinberg type headless basses. My thought though, is to get a Tele body & fit it to the sides. It'd take some reworking & I'd have to figure out how to cut the Tele, but, I think it could be a cool looking bass, when done...
Seem you didn’t get a body with it and they put a pick up on your head stock?? Hellen Keller Model..... Almost looks like 57chevy Fender. Kramer’s are crazy collectibles, my buddy has a bunch with the aluminum necks n spilt head stock.. Not sexy
To be honest about it I think that's not so ugly. Not the prettiest but not bad. I myself have never warmed up to Rickenbacker 4001 basses on looks, though undoubtedly they're rock and roll classics. If Lemmy would play it, it's worthy of its rock and roll reputation. Doesn't mean I think it's pretty. But then again, neither was Lemmy.
no, but it might be useful while rafting... I really dig steinbergs too. even an import would make me happy. I`m thinking about making an explorer type body to this aluminium neck... I really dig kramer stuff and I bought it because I always wanted something with a aluminium neck One of my future projects, when I´m sure I´ll have the same address for the next 4 months is to buy a rick kit and do a ¨born to lose out to lunch¨ replica. The only thing I´ll change is using musicman style pickups in this thing.
I don't hate the 4001, I just never warmed up to the body and headstock shapes of Ricks. For basses I'm more of a Fender guy. My absolute favorite bass is the 1983/1984 Fender Precision Elite II, in Wild Cherryburst finish with gold hardware. Pimptastic!
I have a thing for precisions too... I have gas for a white on white with a maple neck because tia carrere and a white on red because donald ¨duck¨ dunn I think I have gas for things that would consume my income for two lives... Although I really like Mr. Harris I have no gas for a blue one
I had one of the Steinberger Spirit 6-strings for a while. I got it specifically as a practice guitar to take to work on the North Sea oil rigs, where I was working at the time. For that, it was the best compromise available due to it's size and weight in my luggage (both were restricted on the helicopter). I used it with a BOSS Micro BR recorder, again, the most utility I could get from the smallest package. But as an everyday guitar I hated it. The neck was so thick!, and my playing habits need a guitar body to hug with my strumming forearm as I play. Otherwise the whole guitar gets out of control and slews around. Compensating by gripping the neck tighter just made my hands ache. I wasn't willing to change my playing style just for this cheap guitar, so when I left the rigs it got traded quickly. Never again.
my gas for this kind of thing came because of traveling too. I'm living in mexico city but I'm working in Tuxpan (veracruz) for a while, so traveling every 4 days.
