Congrats! I know the DSL has some detractors, but you can't beat it for the price. I have the older 40C and am really happy with it.

I have the dsl40cr and I use it to gig and record with all of the time.
I currently have a Scumback H75 in it which I love but I also really like the “V” Type.....excellent speaker.
Regardless of what some may say I get awesome, useable tones from this amp.
This holds true for all of the channels.....no problems with the ultra gain channel at all......I have recorded many solos with the ultra gain channel and they sound great.
    Congrats!

I'm pretty excited, going to do some tube rolling just for fun....I do have a chineese vin30, and a creamback75...so I'll be messing with those as well, not that's it's even needed....Amp sounds great on its own....but it will be fun to mess with.

I do have a jj ecc823, Some just, a ge5751, and a gold lion on the way.

Biggest improvement over the 20hr is the 20hr is fizzy untill volume gets over 3, I'm not seeing that with the 40....And with my 20 I had to get the Bulliten update on the loop as it had a wicked volume drop from the loop untill they relocated the insert of the loop...Also not an issue on the. 40

Congrats on the new Marshall! Did you keep the 20? Are you able to play the 40 at home with MV over 3?

I have both a DSL20CR and a DSL40CR, both are great amps. I personally prefer the cranked sounds of the 20, with channel volumes wide open and ULTRA gain to taste, CLASSIC CHANNEL gets the gain dimed! This however makes the amp pretty loud, requiring a GOOD attenuator. The 40, on the other hand is far more versatile and more capable of keeping consistent tones down to lower volumes than the 20. I'm selling the 40 and keeping the 20!

I'd be interested to know your opinion of using the ECC823 in V1.

Best amp you can get for the money. The end. And that's before you start messing around with tubes and or speakers. Which there is no need to do. But you know....

Jj ecc823 does what it says, I does lower the gain on the red channel. It definitely smoothes out the distortion...I'd say creamy....did lose some top end and the bite of the 2 overdrive channels....it's a no go for me...it took away what I love about marshall. I could see it being a fantastic option for some players....just not me. In my dsl 15 it was the answer....I did go back to the stock jj untill my gold lion arrives....
